The Wildlife Evidence

🚗 You hit a wild animal on the road. What you do in the next 5 minutes can decide its fate.

Most people panic… or drive away.

But those first minutes are critical — and the wrong action can make things worse for the animal and for you.

Here’s a simple protocol wildlife rescuers recommend:

🛑 1. Stop safely
Pull over, turn on hazard lights, and make sure you’re not creating another accident.

🧣 2. Cover and protect
Injured wild animals are terrified and stressed.
• Gently cover the head with a blanket or jacket
• Do not touch with bare hands
• Do not give food or water
• Keep the animal warm and calm

📞 3. Call for help
Contact emergency services or a local wildlife rescue center.
Give them the species (if you know it), the size, location, and condition of the animal.

⚠️ Important:
Injured wildlife should not be taken to a regular vet unless instructed by professionals. Many species require specialized care.

💡 Small preparation that can save a life:
Keep a blanket and thick gloves in your car. It could make all the difference.
