On 5-27-26 at 4:53 p.m., deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department responded to the 100 block of Signal Hill Boulevard (unincorporated Belleville) after being contacted by a homeowner reporting suspicious activity at his home.

The homeowner reported that a white male suspect, identifying himself as a Ameren utility worker entered his home after stating there was a problem with interior utility connections. The owner became suspicious after noticing that the male did not have any identification or a safety vest displaying the name or logo of the utility company.

The homeowner then contacted 911 and reported the incident while the male was still inside. After hearing the homeowner on the phone with dispatchers, the suspect fled from the home driving a white Chevrolet pickup truck with no markings.

The suspect is identified as:

White male (approximately 30 years old)
Blonde hair
Tattoo on arm
Last observed wearing a reflective vest with a white helmet, blue jeans, and work boots.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department would like to remind our citizens that if you are unsure of the identity of workers at your residence, you should protect yourself by contacting Ameren customer service directly at 1-800-755-5000 or by following the below tips:

Do Not Open the Door: Talk to the person through the closed and locked door.

Demand Official ID: Ask to see a physical photo ID and an official uniform. Genuine workers will not hesitate to show this or wait while you verify it.

Call the Utility Company: Look up your local utility provider's official phone number—never use the phone number the worker gives you.

Call to confirm if a work order has been placed for your address.

If you have information in reference to this incident, please contact the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department non-emergency dispatch center at 618-825-2051 and reference case #26-04997 or the Criminal Investigative Division at 618-825-5204.

Call for a very large tortoise blocking the entrance to MotoMart on Carlyle Avenue.
I'm surprised he's not at the shell station.

I'll see myself out.
