We practice these rare theatrics for almost EVERY customer. It’s just one of the benefits of being part of our community. Come try us out this week!

Whether you are using a soft flame, torch, matches, or cedar spills, the first light sets the foundation for the entire experience.

An uneven ignition can cause tunneling or canoeing and compromise burn, draw, and flavor, never fully allowing the cigar the opportunity to express itself as intended.

Proper lighting is not ritual for ritual’s sake. It is the beginning of a more refined and enjoyable cigar experience.

In the rare theatrical moments where a tobacconist lights a cigar for a customer, technique, precision, and professionalism matter even more.

CIGAR 101: The Band — Remove It or Leave It?

That decorative ring around your cigar is called the band. And the great debate: should you remove it?

Here's the deal:
🎭 Leaving it on is perfectly fine—especially at the start
🔥 If you want to remove it, wait until you've smoked about a third of the cigar. The heat loosens the glue.
⚠️ Pulling it off too early can tear the wrapper
🤷 Some people never remove it. That's okay too.

There's no right answer—just personal preference. But now you know the technique.

Good info!

The traditional cut remains the standard for a reason.

When using a guillotine, double guillotine, or cigar scissors, the goal is simple: create enough opening for an effortless draw while preserving the structure of the cigar.

A common misconception is that more cut always equals more airflow. While that may sometimes be true, it is not always the case. (Punch and piercer cuts, for example, create a much smaller opening yet remain popular among many cigar smokers.)

By leaving the shoulder and cap structure intact, the cigar maintains its intended shape, improves comfort at the mouth, and reduces the likelihood of fraying over time.

Contrary to popular belief, a cigar does not instantly unravel because a deeper cut was made. But a precise cut honors the craftsmanship of the cigar and preserves the experience the creator intended.

Less is often more.

Savor your time.
