Well we sure aren’t ready for school to start back, because we’ll be getting finished with our summer cocktail series (and the traffic will be worst and the parking lots a lot fuller, and…..well….the things that come with being a college town). With a rainy week ahead, today’s cocktail is for an author who wrote a book good enough to be made into a Emmy winning series (15 Emmys to be exact!). So with a rainy final free week before UGA starts back up, you can pair this cocktail with a great book or an awesome series! This cocktail is for Margaret Atwood. She is a Canadian novelist, poet, literary critic, and inventor. Since 1961, she has published 18 books of poetry, 18 novels, 11 books of nonfiction, nine collections of short fiction, eight children’s books, two graphic novels, and a number of small press editions of both poetry and fiction. You’ll know her work “The Handmaid’s Tale” (1985), and if you don’t know it, you should. Handmaids Tale is a riveting tale that explores themes that seem oh too close to issues of our own society today. Atwood is still alive and kicking and is quite an amazing speaker of the issues for which she stands for, so she is well deserving of a cocktail in her name! So here it is.
