It’s a summer Sunday!! That means it’s time for another cocktail and book!! In case you’ve missed them, this summer we are making cocktails that honor female literacy greats! We have drawn inspiration from some great cocktail books that we just had to try out (especially “Buzzworthy: Cocktails Inspired by Female Literary Greats” by Jennifer Croll ( ) and Illustrated by Rachelle Baker ( )(we got our copy at ). Today’s literary great is Amanda Gorman. Amanda Gorman is a poet who might just be our youngest entry of literary greats. She performed her poem, “The Hill We Climb” at the inauguration of President Joe Biden, which made her the youngest ever poet to perform at a U.S. inauguration! With her hint in that poem as wanting to be president herself one day, this cocktail is a take on the cocktail, El Presidente. Here it is!

The Amanda Gorman

-1 1/2 oz white rum (we used )
-3/4 oz Lillet Blanc ( )
-1/2 oz blue curaçao ( )
-1/2 oz fresh lime juice
Garnish: Lime rind

Add ingredients to shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass. Garnish with a lime rind twisted. Enjoy!

It might be the last pretty day for a while depending on if the weather stays the same on the reports. So make sure you pick up your wine club wines for this June!!! There are some killer wines with some awesome labels just waiting for a warm night out on the porch, or maybe these rainy nights stuck inside. Either way, these wines can keep you in good company!!

Time for another entry for this summer’s cocktail series! This series pairs cocktails with female authors, and is based mostly from the cocktail book “Buzzworthy: Cocktails Inspired by Female Literary Greats” by Jennifer Croll ( ) and Illustrated by Rachelle Baker ( ). Today’s focus author is one that everyone should know. It’s only the fabulous, Maya Angelou! Although her poetry is what most people think about when they hear her name, she was also a world-renowned author, civil rights activist, and performer/actor. Her memoir, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, is now considered a banned book, although it is considered important by many literary professionals due to it’s theme of understanding of identity and purpose even in the face of victimization. Angelou performed her poetry on many of the greatest stages, including the inauguration of Bill Clinton in 1993, the recording of which won her a Grammy. Such a strong woman, who was said to write with a glass of sherry in hand, deserves a unique cocktail which includes her choice of drink. So, here it is.

The Maya Angelou

- 1.5 oz of Oloroso Sherry
- 3/4 oz Kahlua ( )
- 1 egg (yes….a whole ass egg)
- Optional garnish: 1 coffee bean

Add ingredients to shaker with no ice. Shake hard to emulsify. Add ice and shake for at least 30 seconds. Strain into glass and garnish. Enjoy
(Don’t let this fool ya, it tastes like edible cake batter cookie dough!) ❤️📚

The summer cocktail series is back!! This summer is a focus on cocktails named after female literary greats! These cocktails are some of our favorites from a book titled “Buzzworthy: Cocktails Inspired by Female Literary Greats” writte. by and illustrated by . (We got our copy from our friends at Avid if you’re interested in this book! ) Trying to inspire more reading in all of us, and respect the wonderful female authors of our time and times past, this book and its cocktails will be the highlight of summer for us!! We will be choosing an author and pairing their cocktail with one of their many fabulous works!

First up, is Isabel Allende ( ). This Chilean-American author has an intriguing back story, that shows why her focus on strong female characters is such a focus in all of her works. You’ll want to read about her because she has even fled her home country from assassination attempts on her family (crazy right?). She currently lives in America and has won many awards for her works, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She has written over 20 books in her lifetime, but her book “The House of Spirits” remains her most famous. Pick up one of works today from one of our local book shops, or find one at your local library. And don’t forget to pair it with this delicious cocktail.

The Isabel Allende:

-2 oz Pisco ( is a must))
-1/2 oz Crème de Violette
-1/4 oz orgeat
-3/4 oz fresh lime juice

Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously, fine strain into a Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with lime (or micro star flowers if you have them!)

A crisp yet juicy citrus forward brew with undertones of ripe tropical fruits. Compared to the regular ghost in the machine, this one does have more bitterness, but opens up better on a pour or if you let it warm. Otherwise a flavor bomb of delicious Citra hops that you don’t wanna miss out on!!
