Dear Citizens of Amherst,
It is with mixed emotions that today I inform you that Janet and I have sold The Homestead. Janet and I purchased the store on August 17th 2009, and have operated it for almost 14 years. Amherst is a truly exceptional community and we have been blessed to have our business here. From the very start we were welcomed here with open arms. Even the owners of Moultons, Steve and Diane were among the first people to wish us well and to offer their support. We couldn’t have been more fortunate than to have our business here.
We will miss seeing the children from the high school and the middle school. I would always tell Janet that she is Amherst’s mom. The kids would go off to college and return back home to see Amherst’s mom. They didn’t have to order their sandwich; Janet always knew what they wanted. We felt a responsibility for the happiness and the safety of your children.
Many of you know that I like to talk. I enjoyed engaging people in conversation with almost every transaction. We had a lot of fun trying to solve the problems of the world together. I hope to have made many friends that will remain with us for a lifetime.
For now we are planning to take it easy this summer, and then see what is next. We are moving on with the hope that we are leaving things a little better than we found them. We could not have been successful without you support.
As of approximately 1:00 PM on Monday 5/15/23 The Homestead will have new owners, without interruption to our customers. Please welcome Peter and his crew with a warm Amherst welcome. I will be staying around for 2 weeks to assist with the transition. Please stop by this weekend so we can say farewell.
Warmest Regards,
Ralph and Janet
