Tonight, we mourn the loss of a Sergeant who gave his life in the line of duty by protecting and serving his community. It is not easy getting up and putting on the uniform, hugging and kissing your loved ones bye. Every shift is different. Every day is different. Every call...possibly the last. Isaiah 6:8: "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'". For all who say, "they knew what they signed up for,", no one signs up with the expectation of never coming home again. Yes, they know the risks as with any job you take. But risks should be mitigated. Yes, officers are aware of the dangers, however, it does not mean they want to be maimed or killed on the job. In reality of the job dangers and risks in this profession, we need to recognize that this profession requires a balance between acknowledging danger and providing officers with the support to manage that danger safely. This is something that I do not feel that we do enough of. Instead, we put them under a microscope, scrutinize them for use of force/excessive force, and hang them out to dry instead of stepping up to support them and give them the tools to do the job safely. We are so quick to play keyboard warrior of how it should have been handled, but when given the opportunity to do the job and wear the badge, you turn a blind eye and say nope, not me. Yet, they do the job and do it selflessly and unwavering. Thank you to the men and women who put on the uniforms every day to serve and protect us. Deuteronomy 31:6: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you". Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Matthew 5:9: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God". Thank you Officers, Firefighters, EMS, and all Military personnel. My lounge appreciates you more than I could ever express in words. You are truly the reason I opened it up. Thank you Sergeant. We have the watch from here.
