We love harvest time so much that at Hunter’s we not only have a grape harvest each year but also an olive harvest!

Hunter's Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is ranked in the top 3 Sauvignon Blancs that Decanter has reviewed this year! 🙌

Receiving 94 points from the highly esteemed wine magazine, they wrote:
"Pristine fruit characters that flow seamlessly across the palate. Fresh, citrus-green-rose petal aromatic profile. There's a tension and poise here that champions Sauvignon."

Marlborough has set the standard for the rest of the world when it comes to Sauvignon Blanc. We found an excerpt from our 1989 newsletter that stated that the London-based wine magazine Decanter had conducted a poll of the world's best Sauvignon Blancs. Not only did nine New Zealand wines rate among the top two dozen, but five Marlborough wines were among the top ten!

That is recognition enough, but what cemented our province's reputation all those years ago was the fact that three Marlborough wines were amongst the top four, including first and second. Hunter's 1988 Sauvignon Blanc polled as the best in the world and we are proud to still be amongst the top rated Sauvignon Blancs tasted by Decanter.

Hunter's was one of the first wineries out of Marlborough to export large volumes to the UK following one of Hunter’s proudest and earliest milestones in 1989, when our 1988 Hunter’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc won first place in Decanter’s international wine tasting.

Recently we were very pleased to see history repeat itself with the 2021 Hunter’s Sauvignon Blanc receiving 94 points in the recent Decanter UK magazine tasting of New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs in April making it one of the top three Sauvignon Blancs from the 2021 vintage. 🙌

Jane’s first introduction to cover crops was on her father’s vineyards in South Australia where it was an annual task to plant an inter row crop of lucerne or peas to build up the Nitrogen content of the soil and to add bulk to the light sandy soils when mown down and rotary hoed in prior to bud burst.

With the focus on more sustainable vineyard practices this process has been gathering momentum over the years and we have seen many variations of cover crops to increase soil fertility, aid temperature regulation and improve soil structure. And depending on what is sown they can look really pretty as the flowers open.

Some of the cover crops we have sown include a blend of clovers, red fescue, alyssum, borage, yarrow and sheeps burnett, to name a few of the seeds.

How great do they make the vineyard rows looks?! 😍🌷
