Benefizio at 50: Tuscany’s Trailblazing Chardonnay

Born in 1973, Benefizio was Italy’s breakthrough barrique-aged white, planted at nearly 700 m in the woods of Castello Pomino. Now, fifty vintages on, this Chardonnay remains a statement of elegance—floral, citrusy, mineral and spiced, crafted with rigorous barrel-aging and lees stirring.

As part of the 50th Benefizio celebrations, we held an exclusive vertical masterclass at Grand Cru, led by Stefano Benini, Vice-President & Export Director of Frescobaldi. A rare tasting across vintages that showcased the evolution and elegance of this iconic Chardonnay.

From the wind-swept hills of Santa Barbara come wines of restraint, clarity, and depth. Uncover the bold spirit behind Jonata, brought to life by winemaker Matt Dees. Jonata defies convention by planting Rhône and Bordeaux grapes on its rare sandy-loam soils, producing exceptionally concentrated, expressive wines.
