What is Cider? How is it made? (1/2) 🍏🍎

Our new Natural Cider, , have very kindly given us access to some behind the scenes shots of their cider making process. So let’s talk a bit about what cider is, and how its made in a two part post!

To put it simply, Cider is an alcoholic drink made from fermented juice from apples and it’s most popular in the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe. The words Cidre, Sicer or Ciser is first mentioned in Olde French and English texts as early as the 12th/13th century, however people fermenting apples dates back to even 55 BCE, when Julius Caesar was invading Britain - he found native Celts fermenting small crabapples and took it back through Europe. So it’s fair to say, people have been getting drunk on apples and fruits for a fair few years.

As time went on, people moved from crab apples to experiment with different apple variants. English styles are usually higher in alcohol content, drier and French/European styles are lower alcohol whilst using sweeter variants. Then there’s also a wide range of similar variants like Perry, made with pears, or ciders mixed with other fruits like berries or stone fruits.

We’ve opened a bar! 🍻 is ready to pour you a pint.

Some of you have probably seen this by now or even popped in for a pint, but we realised we hadn’t done a dedicated post on this so… here you go.

In Dec we opened the doors to - a venture between Quality Drops very own Russell as well as the guys from Beer Pioneer and Beer Clan.

It’s a relaxed Riverside Taproom with 8 Rotating taps, 100+ beers in the fridge with all your QD favourites, natural wines and Pies by our good mate 🥧

You can enjoy the cosy atmosphere inside or you can chill out on the banks of the Singapore River to watch the world go by - all whilst enjoying a lovely drop.

Dry January means Dry Ciders right?

Dry Jan doesn’t really work for us, we are in the game of selling great drinks. Therefore we like to see the start of the year as a time to take a bit of a reset and maybe drink something a bit different instead - and it doesn’t mean you have to drink loads!

Some UK breweries and stores have branded this ‘Try-anuary’, where you try different styles of beer, different breweries or just a different beverage altogether. After all, that’s what we all love - learning a little and expanding our horizons in knowledge and taste.

Enter - - a family owned cidery 🍎🍏from Hereford in England. Perfect timing, their cider arrived in Singapore for the first time last month.

All of their ciders are lovingly small batch and naturally fermented. We’ve got an excellent range of their latest seasonal releases, which have varied finish such as barrel ageing in wine or spirits casks, dry-hopped or had other fruits added in. All this as well as some core classics. We’ve tried a few and we’ve been super impressed so far, they go really well with a lovely bit of cheese too 🧀

What happens when two legends of craft beer come together? The answer is, the beer of the summer.

Sierra Nevada is widely regarded as the brewery that started the craft beer revolution. So when Mountain Culture recently brewed a beer for the summer with them, the reception in Australia was huge. Sold out in a couple days meaning that the guys had to put some more in the tank - and then that sold out.

We’ve got our hands on this super limited hazy pale and we reckon it won’t be around for long. So check the webshop and grab some of this summer smasher for those hot moments in between the rain!
