Kaya pala ayaw tumaas ng voltage ng 300A high-output alternator natin! 😂

Yung nakakabit na “0 AWG” wire na nabili sa Shopee, sobrang underspec pala. Makapal tingnan sa labas, pero kulang na kulang yung actual conductor sa loob. Result? Higher resistance and voltage drop, especially kapag mataas na ang current demand.

Be careful when buying electrical items online. Maraming honest sellers sa Shopee, pero meron ding products na hindi tugma ang actual specs sa advertised specs. Always check the actual wire size and material, lalo na kung gagamitin sa high-current applications.

Ayun, biglang nagpa-rewire tuloy si client ng buong supporting wiring para masulit at maging safe ang 300A high-output alternator niya. 💪⚡

High-output alternator = proper high-current wiring. Hindi pwedeng alternator lang ang upgraded!

I was driving my ICE yesterday kasi may kailangan akong ihatid sa Clark. On the way back, natraffic ako sa NLEX dahil baha sa may Meycauayan and habang nakatengga, I couldn't help but compare my Kia Carens LX and GAC Aion UT. 😂

The Carens was ₱1.270M back in 2015, while the Aion UT is ₱1.068M today.

Grabe yung march of technology, no?

Yung base-model Carens na ₱1.270M noon, compared sa base-model Aion UT na ₱1.068M ngayon, ang dami nang technology na dati hindi mo maiisip makukuha mo at this price point.

And funny enough, noong panahon ng Carens, marami rin ang tingin sa Korean cars ay “sirain yan, hindi tatagal.” Well, 11 years and 239,000 km later, kumikikig pa rin yung Korean ICE ko. 😂

Pero after only 2 months with an EV, parang na-rewire na rin utak ko.

First thing I missed: ADAS.

Sobrang game changer, especially sa traffic and long drives. Two months pa lang pero spoiled na spoiled na ako.

Habang gapang kami sa NLEX, ang nasa isip ko:

“Eeww, nagga-gas pa ako para gumapang sa traffic?” 😂

Sa Aion, aandar at hihinto na lang mag-isa with the driving assistance active. Sobrang laking bagay pala once nasanay ka.

Second: zero engine vibration.

Ito pala yung hindi mo maa-appreciate until mawala siya. Walang vibration habang idle, walang kumukulit sa katawan mo habang traffic.

Tahimik lang buhay mo sa loob. 😂

Third: the steering.

I always thought magaan na steering ng Carens.

Then I got an EV.

Holy crap. May igagaan pa pala. 😂

But the biggest one? Running cost.

Around ₱1,400 nagastos ko sa diesel balikan ng Clark. Habang traffic, napaisip ako:

“Kung Aion dala ko, around ₱400 lang sana 'to sa kuryente.”

Yung ₱1,000 difference, pangkain at kape na rin! 😂

Ito talaga yung pinaka-nakakabaliw after owning an EV. Every time gumagastos ako sa gas or diesel ngayon, automatic kino-convert na ng utak ko:

“Kung electric kaya, magkano lang sana 'to?” 😂

Lalo na kapag Galant ang dala ko na around 3 km/L tapos Blaze 100 pa ang kinakarga. Masakit isipin. HAHAHA.

Tapos sa EV, mas tahimik, comfortable, may ADAS, at mas mura pa patakbuhin based on my own use.

Of course, hindi completely apples-to-apples. I'm comparing an 11-year-old diesel ICE with 239,000 km on the clock to a brand-new EV. Technology, refinement, age, and even inflation make this an inherently unfair comparison.

But that's a me problem. 😂

Ang point lang: after living with an EV for only a couple of months, sobrang bilis pala magbago ng expectations mo sa kotse.

Things you never cared about before suddenly become things you don't want to live without.

Na-spoil na yata ako ng EV. 😂

Lalo na sa Subaru EJ and FA applications—accessible yung alternator and on this particular setup:

No bracket modifications. No spacers. No mounting modifications. No belt change. 100% OEM-style fitment.

Here's a 2009 Subaru Forester we did a while back. Actually, eto yung first-ever QUAD SPAL brushless fan setup namin—and nung una, sobrang nagulat kami kasi akala namin baliw si client. 😂

Apat na SPAL brushless fans?! Seryoso ba 'to? HAHAHA.

Then eventually, nalaman namin na naka 270A DC Power Engineering high-output alternator pala siya.

Ahhh kaya pala confident mag-quads! 😂⚡

So before we replace his 270A DC Power Engineering unit with our 300A high-output alternator, here's a quick sound check muna.

Here's a 300A high-output alternator, PN 23700-AA521, installed on a 2009 Subaru Forester XT running QUAD SPAL brushless fans. 🔥

Client previously had a 270A DC Engineering high-output alternator—and that thing was an absolute beast! Unfortunately, after around a year of use, nasira yung unit. Since it was purchased directly from the US, walang local support available to handle the warranty here in the Philippines, making a warranty claim/repair impractical for the client.

Sumakto naman na kakalabas lang natin ng 100% bolt-on high-output alternator for this application. And since sobrang bait sa atin ni client, pumayag siyang maging guinea pig for our first customer installation. 😂

Technically ako naman talaga nauna sa Galant, so siya yung guinea pig na paying customer. HAHAHA.

During installation, we also decided to redo the charging cables and rear battery relocation wiring.

Sabi ni client okay na raw yung wiring niya—and initially naniwala rin kami. Makes sense naman, considering naka-270A DC Engineering alternator na siya before.

Pero after installing our 300A unit, napansin namin na hindi umaabot sa expected charging voltage. So chineck namin yung wiring.

Ayun na. 😂

Yung supposedly “0 AWG” cable na nabili online wasn't actually a proper full-size 0 AWG cable. After replacing the undersized cables and correcting the wiring, umayos agad yung charging voltage.

Another reminder na kapag high-output alternator ang usapan, hindi alternator lang ang upgrade. Your charging cables, grounds, terminals, connections, and protection all need to be properly sized for the current the system can deliver.

Here are two things I surprisingly like about the ergonomics ng GAC Aion UT interior: 😂

1.) Yung putol na center console.

Unlike some of its contemporaries like the Geely EX2, Dongfeng Nammi and BYD Dolphin na mas enclosed yung center-console area papunta sa dashboard, sa Aion UT open yung space sa harap ng center console.

Meaning… pwede ka mag-manspread. 😂 And surprisingly, it actually makes a difference! Mas relaxed yung natural position ng knees and legs mo, especially on longer drives.

Hindi ko alam kung kasama talaga 'to sa intention ng designers, but what a happy coincidence. 😂

2.) Bottle holders sa door cards!

Dahil sa design at placement ng power-window controls, may usable space sa door pocket for a tall water bottle, bukod pa sa dalawang cupholders sa center console.

Again, hindi ko alam kung intentional yung exact bottle fit—but another happy coincidence. 😂

Ang limitation lang, mas bagay siya sa thin and tall bottles. Sayang, konting bulge lang sana sa door pocket para kasya rin yung mga chonky na tumbler. 😂

Small details, pero ito yung mga bagay na hindi mo mapapansin sa spec sheet. After living with the car, saka mo maa-appreciate yung ergonomics.
