We are handling a clear territorial encroachment as a routine scenario, similar to how it was in the past. Here's an article from the Inquirer.

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – A Chinese fishing vessel was intercepted some 20 nautical miles northwest of Sanga-Sanga town, Tawi-Tawi province on Wednesday noon, naval authorities said.

Lieutenant Chester Cabaltera, spokesperson of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM), said the interception was a product of their stepping up maritime patrols and defense operations in the country’s borders.

“They were not caught fishing, they were just passing by the area. Initially they were not responsive to radio communication but an hour later, they responded and allowed our personnel to inspect the boat,” Cabaltera said.

The fishing vessel has a marking of F/V Cheung Kam Wing. There were four Chinese fishermen on board and they said they came from Indonesia and en route to Hong Kong.

The NFWM carried out inspection procedures on the vessel and found no violations or irregularities. The fishing vessel was allowed to continue on its journey but remained under monitoring to ensure safety and security in the area, Cabaltera said.

Cabaltera said the unit that performed inspection procedures were personnel from BRP Laurence Narag (Patrol Gunboat 907) that are part of Naval Task Force 61 operating in Tawi-Tawi.

“Upon inspection of the boat, nothing unusual or illegal was found inside. There were fish inside ice cases,” Cabaltera added.

The Philippine National Maritime Council does not categorize the Chinese Coast Guard's actions towards Philippine troops at the Ayungin Shoal on Monday, June 17, as an armed attack. They suggest that the incident may have been a misunderstanding or an accidental event. Additionally, they are recommending to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. that the Philippine government consider announcing the initiation of resupply missions to the BRP Sierra Madre.

"Well, you know this was probably a misunderstanding or an accident. We're not yet ready to classify this as an armed attack. I don't know kung 'yong mga nakita namin is bolo, axe, nothing beyond that."

"When Chiz saw me, he said, wow bilib din ako sayo may energy ka pa after standing and smiling for over an hour. I'm sure you could use a drink. I laughed and said: You bet!. And so I mischievously got his glass of champagne, took a zip and told him, eeww hindi naman malamig ang champagne mo. After that I gave his glass champagne back to him. And then we have a good laughs over that.".

A security expert has raised concerns that Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (Pogo) sites, especially those near military bases, could be exploited by China as a "Trojan horse" for a surprise attack in the country. Despite this alarming possibility highlighted by Chester Cabalza, the president and founder of the Manila-based think tank International Development and Security Cooperation, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stated that they have implemented contingency measures to address any potential threats.

An escalating Ukraine-Russia war like in west west Philippine sea.

“I’d like to propose greater deployment in the high seas. We will do our part, but we also need you to be there to maintain rules-based order the way Coast Guards should play their role,” - Gavan

“We know our limits, but we know we can do something to give time for our political leaders to do their part to keep the West Philippine Sea as free as it should be,”.

China's maritime Gray zone tactics have increased the presence of Chinese ships in Vietnam's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), leading to tensions. A Chinese survey vessel's month-long incursion in Vietnam's EEZ in 2023 heightened the situation. This conflict between China and Vietnam is a potential flashpoint in the South China Sea, with Chinese ships disrupting Vietnamese oil and gas operations. Vietnam expressed concern over the Hai Yang 26 vessel's survey activities in its EEZ on June 6, condemning Chinese aggression diplomatically.

On June 6, the foreign ministry spokesperson, Phạm Thu Hằng, firmly denounced China's illegal survey activities by the Hai Yang 26 vessel within Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, as outlined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

China's continued presence of survey vessels in the region is part of its aggressive maneuvers to assert dominance over a significant portion of the South China Sea, known for its vast untapped oil reserves and natural gas. The area is believed to contain 11 billion barrels of untapped oil and 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
