About 10 years ago, I fell in love with sewing. ā¤ļø
It all started with my dad's antique Singer sewing machine, more than 100 years old. I had absolutely no idea how to use it, but thankfully, there was YouTube. I searched for tutorials, bought the missing parts like the leather belt, needles, and a few screws, and slowly brought it back to life.
It was the old kind with a foot pedal. I remember playing with it as a child, trying to pedal faster and faster just for fun. Little did I know it would one day become something I truly loved.
I started with simple keychains and small pouches. Before I knew it, I had taught myself how to sew shorts, cute vests, pajamas for my youngest son, and little dresses for my nieces. I loved visiting ukay-ukay shops, looking for dresses with potential, then altering them into beautiful new outfits.
At one point, I even looked into studying fashion design. The nearest school was in Subic, but with a young son to take care of, it just wasn't possible. So I kept learning on my own, one project at a time.
Then life happened.
When my second child was born, my days became filled with diapers, school, meals, cuddles, and everything that comes with raising two little ones. I used to tell myself, "One day, I'll sew lots of dresses for my daughter when I have more time."
That day never came.
Somewhere along the way, I lost my touch, not because I stopped loving sewing, but because I was so busy loving and raising my children that my own passion quietly took a back seat. Sewing takes time, patience, and hours to create a single piece, and those hours became family time instead.
Today, the sewing machine my parents gifted me only comes out when one of my kids needs a torn uniform or a loose seam stitched back together.
Sometimes I miss the person who could spend hours creating something beautiful from a piece of fabric.
Maybe one day, I'll find my way back to sewing again. ā¤ļø
