๐˜ผ๐™ƒ๐˜ผ๐™”: Northern Samar PDRRMO igin Activate 'Blue Alert' Status (HUGOT NA PAG-ANDAM) makahuman an Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment para sa Super Typhoon 'Inday'

P. R.
Northern Samar PDRRMO pushes to Activate 'Blue Alert' Status
after Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment for Super Typhoon 'Inday'

Following a comprehensive Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting conducted by its EOC Scenario Generation Team, the Northern Samar Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office endorsed to place the province on Blue Alert Status in anticipation of Super Typhoon "Inday."

Presided over by PDRRMO Chief Rei Josiah Echano, under the strict directive of Governor Harris Ongchuan, the meeting focused on mapping out potential impact scenarios.

Echano emphasized that although state weather bureau PAGASA projects a low probability of direct landfall on the Philippine landmass, Super Typhoon Indayโ€™s immense size and its power to significantly enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) present critical risks to the provinceโ€™s eastern seaboard and low-lying areas.

The PDRRMC Scenario Generation Team presented high-resolution data models to identify vulnerabilities across the province's 24 municipalities, establishing several areas of concern: heightened marine risks because of intense gale-force winds are projected to cause highly turbulent sea conditions, Monsoon-Induced Flooding as habagat is anticipated to bring sustained heavy rainfall. Low-lying areas and critical river basins are being closely monitored for rapid water level elevation and saturated landslide corridor because of the continuous downpours threatening soil stability.

Operations Upgraded to Blue Alert

"Placing the province on Blue Alert means we are moving from passive monitoring to active, heightened readiness. Half of our response clusters are now fully manned and operational at the EOC around the clock. We are ensuring that the gap between risk assessment and field response is completely close,โ€ Echano said.

Under the Blue Alert status, the following immediate protocols have been enforced province-wide: the PDRRMC EOC and all Municipal DRRMOs have activated continuous tracking, data-logging, and communication networks, rescue equipment, heavy machinery for clearing operations, and medical deployment teams have been moved to strategic logistical hubs, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has secured food packs and non-food items ready for rapid and surgical distribution to vulnerable sectors and exposed LGUs.

The PDRRMO strongly advises fisherfolk and small sea craft operators across Northern Samar, particularly on the Pacific seaboard, to strictly adhere to "No Sail" policies starting early morning tomorrow. Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas are urged to stay vigilant, monitor official updates via the Provincial DRRRM Office, and cooperate promptly with local officials should pre-emptive evacuations become necessary.

News|| CIS-Secondary Gears Up for 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

CIS-Secondary joined thousands of schools during the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on June 18, 2026, at exactly 9:00 in the morning, reinforcing students safety and disaster preparedness in line with national policies.

Pursuant to RA 1021 and directives from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), all DepEd schools, including CIS-Secondary, participated in the quarterly drill.

Prior to the alarm, students were oriented by School DRRM Coordinator Mr. Edison G. Adlawan on the basics of earthquake safety. When the alarm sounded, students and teachers immediately practiced โ€œDuck, Cover, and Hold,โ€ then proceeded in an orderly manner to designated evacuation area.

The activity forms part of DepEdโ€™s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) policies under DepEd Order No. 21, s. 2015, which integrates disaster preparedness into school operations and the learning process.

The school also reminded everyone that weaving such drills into regular activities ensures compliance with national DRRM requirements while maintaining continuity of instruction.

Cawayanistas trooped back to CIS-Secondary on June 8, 2026, as the school officially opened the academic year 2026-2027 with flag ceremonies, orientations, and a renewed commitment to quality education.

Morning shift students gathered at 7:00 AM on the school grounds for the flag-raising ceremony, followed by short messages from Guidance Designate Mrs. Nelfa D. Canoza and School Head Mrs. Vina A. Romance. The program continued with the introduction of faculty and staff.

Advisers then led classroom orientations, discussing class schedules, school policies, and expectations for the year.

Meanwhile, afternoon shift students held their flag-raising ceremony in their respective classrooms at 1:00 PM, followed by orientation and other activities.

School grounds and classrooms were clean, safe, and conducive to learning โ€” a result of the recently concluded Brigada efforts led by students, parents, teachers, stakeholders, and partner organizations.

โ€œThis positive start reflects our commitment to providing quality education and great possibilities for every Cawayanista,โ€ said Mrs. Romance.

Attendance was high across both shifts, with students expressing excitement to reconnect with classmates and teachers after the summer break.

Classes will continue tomorrow as CIS-Secondary gears up for a week of activities designed for the opening block to welcome students and set the tone for the academic year.
