FROM DOUBT TO DAZZLE
A Light That Endures

A single bulb does not wait for the darkness to leave—it simply shines.

At the start of the school year, not everything felt bright. Some students entered their classrooms carrying more than notebooks and pens. They brought with them quite the fears, unspoken pressure, and questions they did not know how to answer. There were moments when lessons felt too heavy, when confidence seemed too far away, and when the path ahead looked unclear.

For some, just getting through the day was already a victory.

There were days filled with doubt—when answers did not come easily, when efforts went unnoticed, and when giving up felt like the simpler choice. Progress was not always visible. Growth was not always loud. And for many, the journey felt like moving through a room with little light.

But even then, they did not stop.

They showed up.

They tried again after failing.

They listened, learned, and kept going, even when it was difficult. They held on, even when they were unsure of the outcome. These were not grand moments—but they were real. And they mattered.

Slowly, something began to change.
The lessons that once seemed confusing started to make sense. The hesitation to speak turned into the courage to try. The same students who once doubted themselves began to see that they were capable—that they were improving, growing, and moving forward.

Not all at once, but step by step.

And now, at the end of the school year, that change is impossible to ignore.

It can be seen in the smiles of students as they receive their awards, in the pride they feel holding their certificates, and in the recognition of their hard work. These achievements are meaningful, especially in the heart—they reflect discipline, effort, and commitment.

But the most important victories are not always seen.

They light lives in the students who finally believed in themselves.
In the one who struggled, but chose not to give up.
In those who kept trying, even when no one noticed.

These are the stories that truly define this year.

Because this school year was never just about grades or recognition. It was about becoming. It was about learning how to stand after falling, how to continue despite doubt, and how to find light even in difficult moments.

And now, as this chapter comes to a close, a new one begins.

The road ahead may still feel unfamiliar. There will be new challenges, new expectations, and new moments of uncertainty. There may be times when the path once again feels dim and blurry.

But this time, they will not be searching for light.

Because they have learned something far more important:

They can be the light.

Like a single bulb that brightens even in the darkest room, each student has proven that even the smallest spark can grow into something powerful. That strength is built in quiet moments. That growth happens, even when it is not seen.

And that no darkness is strong enough to stop someone who chooses to keep shining.

So as they move forward, they carry more than just achievements—they carry resilience, courage, and hope.
Not just as students who reached the end of a school year— but as individuals who, despite everything, learned how to shine for themselves.

And in a world that will not always be bright,
they will not search for the light—
they will rise on their own,
and outshine even the darkest rooms.

Youth Empowerment
Students Tackle HIV/AIDS and Teen Pregnancy in Vital Symposium

Sulangan, Bantayan, Cebu –In a proactive move to equip young minds with crucial health knowledge, students of Sulangan Integrated School recently gathered for an impactful symposium addressing HIV/AIDS awareness and the prevention of adolescent pregnancy. Organized by the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), the event, held in the Grade 10–Fuchsia classroom, underscored the theme “Waves of Change: Youth Responsibility through the Three Acts of Goodness.”

The symposium, expertly hosted by Shaira Jane Despi and Mary Christel Arcenas, officially began with a structured sequence of opening activities. This included a smooth registration process, a rousing rendition of the Sugbo Hymn that fostered a sense of local pride, and a solemn opening prayer to set a positive and focused atmosphere. Rochelle M. Sayson, the Head Teacher of Sulangan IS, then delivered the welcome remarks, skillfully setting an encouraging and inclusive tone that primed the students for active engagement throughout the event.

Mr. Richard Hoskins, husband of Nurse Joy, provided an inspirational message, urging students to make wise life decisions. The core of the event featured guest speaker Nurse Joy N. Desamparado, who delivered a comprehensive talk on the multifaceted challenges of teenage pregnancy, including its impact on education, health, and prospects. Nurse Desamparado detailed the ABCDE, which stands for;
Abstinence: Choosing to abstain from s*xual activity is the most effective way to prevent both teenage pregnancy and the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Be faithful: For those who are s*xually active, maintaining a monogamous relationship with a faithful partner reduces the risk of exposure to s*xually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.
Correct and consistent condom use: Using condoms correctly and consistently during s*xual activity can significantly lower the risk of pregnancy and the transmission of HIV and other STIs.
Do not take drugs/alcohol: Avoiding the use of drugs and alcohol can reduce risky behaviors and impaired decision-making, which can contribute to both teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS transmission.
Education: Comprehensive education about s*xual health, contraception, and the risks associated with unprotected s*x and substance abuse is crucial for empowering individuals to make informed decisions and protect their health.

The session truly came alive during the interactive open forum, where students were encouraged to ask anything on their minds. It was a space for genuine curiosity and clarification. One student, Divina Reponte from Grade 11–Snowdrop, bravely asked a common but often misunderstood question: “If mag sigeg kaon og aslom, maka-cause ba og dysmenorrhea?” (Does eating a lot of sour food cause menstrual pain?). Nurse Joy kindly addressed this, reassuring the students that while it’s a common belief, sour foods don't actually cause dysmenorrhea. She then shared the science behind it, explaining that the pain is due to prostaglandins, the body's own chemicals that cause the uterus to contract and shed its lining.
The program concluded with expressions of gratitude from SSLG President Renalyn D. Aloyan and closing remarks from SSLG Vice President Christen Joy Layon, followed by the distribution of certificates.

(It is very important what they will gain from this symposium, so they know what to do and what the effects are, especially regarding teenage pregnancy. They should know this early to avoid what might happen in their future.

This initiative by Sulangan Integrated School actively promotes health education, empowering students to make informed and responsible choices for their well-being and future.

Gising, Kabataan!
HIV/AIDS at Teenage Pregnancy, Tinalakay

“Don’t just listen to what they say, but apply what was learned in this symposium. Because if you don’t put yourself first, no one else will,”aniya pa.

Dagdag pa ni Nurse Joy, mahalagang tandaan ang ABCDE bilang gabay sa pag-iwas sa kapahamakan: Abstinence, Be faithful, Correct and consistent condom use, Do not take drugs/alcohol, at Education.

SIS Conducts Successful Earthquake Drill, Bolstering Student Preparedness

Sulangan Integrated School (SIS) actively participated in the first Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) of 2026 on March 12, reinforcing vital disaster preparedness skills among its students.

The drill commenced with the alarm, prompting students to immediately practice the "duck, cover, and hold" technique. Following this, students calmly lined up and proceeded to their designated safe zone, demonstrating an organized response to the simulated emergency.

This crucial activity was implemented in accordance with Division Memorandum No. 174, s. 2026, which mandates the NSED for the first quarter. The event was expertly coordinated by Mr. Wilmar Layese and Ms. Flora Mae Aloyan, the DRRMO coordinators for the secondary and elementary levels, respectively. They meticulously oversaw the students' evacuation from classrooms to the designated safe zone, ensuring a smooth and secure process for all.

During the drill, Mr. Layese emphasized the importance of preparedness, stating, "It's not about applying everything perfectly, but knowing what to do when it matters." His message underscored that while earthquakes are unpredictable, a well-rehearsed response can significantly mitigate risks and save lives.

The primary objective of this drill was to instill life-saving skills in students and foster a lasting culture of safety within the school community.

CURTAIN CALL: Grade 10 Fuchsias Dazzle with "Aladdin" Musical Theater Production

Grade 10 Fuchsias transformed their classroom into a magical Arabian night on March 16th, captivating the audience with their vibrant musical theater production of Disney's "Aladdin."

The performance, held around 2 PM, was the culmination of their fourth-quarter Mapeh performance task, expertly guided by Mr. Anthony Necesario.

The cast brought the beloved characters to life with remarkable passion. Jason Sevilleno donned the iconic vest as Aladdin, while Geralyn Sumalinog enchanted as Princess Jasmine. Bryl Emmanuel Sepe commanded the stage as the villainous Jafar, with Chobert Tagbo Jr. providing comic relief as Aladdin's mischievous monkey sidekick. Lenwel Frex Batayola delivered a memorable performance as the larger-than-life Genie. The ensemble, comprising their talented classmates, skillfully portrayed the Sultan, diligent guards, and graceful dancers, while also serving as insightful panelists for the performance.

From every spoken word to each deliberate movement, the students conveyed deep emotion and clear storytelling. Their colorful and shining costumes added a spectacular visual element to the production, truly immersing the audience in the world of Agrabah.

The judges—Mrs. Redjin Batindaan, Ms. Diana Balondro, Mrs. Jessica Seville, and Mrs. Dolores Carpizo—lauded the Fuchsias' efforts. "You were beautiful, Fuchsia," they remarked, "because you were all given the chance to experience something like this at such a young grade level. So, in every movement, we saw beauty, and you really embodied your characters so vividly." While acknowledging the challenges, the judges noted, "However, it might have been even better if you were given more time and had a sufficient budget. But even with the limited time you were given, you truly showed the essence of Aladdin, and despite the budget constraints, you were incredibly creative."

Lenwel Frex Batayola, who played the Genie, shared his enthusiasm post-performance: "I'm so happy and thankful to my classmates who helped with the props and costumes. And also, it's great that my classmates already got to experience a theatrical show." His sentiments echoed the overall success of the production, highlighting the valuable experience gained by all involved.

ASSESSMENT DAY
Grade 12 Learners of Sulangan IS Undergo Computer-Based NAT

SULANGAN — All Grade 12 students of Sulangan Integrated School (SIS) took the Computer-Based National Achievement Test (CB-NAT) on March 13 as part of the Department of Education’s effort to measure students’ academic performance and learning progress.

Students arrived early in the morning, around 6:00 a.m., to prepare for the examination. The test lasted most of the day and was completed at approximately 3:00 p.m. The CB-NAT was administered on computers, allowing students to answer questions digitally rather than using the traditional paper-based format.

The examination plays an important role in evaluating the knowledge and competencies of senior high school students. It also contributes significantly to their academic grades, making it an important assessment for Grade 12 learners.

Before the test was conducted, teachers helped prepare the students through orientations and review sessions. These preparations were intended to help students understand the process of the examination and refresh their knowledge of key lessons, especially in reading comprehension.

Despite the short preparation period after the exam was announced, teachers ensured that students were guided and reminded about the necessary materials to bring and the procedures to follow during the examination. They also encouraged students to stay confident, disciplined, and focused throughout the testing process.

According to Mrs. Kathleen Moradas, the Grade 12 adviser, she assisted the students by explaining how the test would be administered and by reviewing important lessons with them.

“Although the preparation was so quick after it was announced, I helped the students prepare for the examination by providing walkthroughs on how it would be administered and also conducted review sessions to reinforce their ideas needed for the test,” Mrs. Moradas said.

She also emphasized the importance of motivating the students before the exam.

“Moreover, I encouraged the students to stay confident, disciplined, and focused on their goals. Aside from academic preparation, I reminded them of the important things to bring during the examination. After the orientation with the division personnel, I personally oriented the Grade 12 students about the purpose of the examination,” she added.

Meanwhile, one of the Grade 12 students, Ms. Jade Avigail T. Tambus, shared her experience while taking the exam.

“When I took the CB-NAT, I felt scared and nervous because we didn’t know what the possible questions and answers would be. It was a new experience for us, so we felt a bit pressured, but at the same time, we were excited to know what we had learned,” Tambus said.

She also explained how important the examination is for their academic performance.

"Yes, it is very helpful for us because, in a way, it serves as a test for us as Grade 12 graduating students to assess our readiness for transitioning to college. That's why we approach the exam with care and stay focused," she added.

Despite feeling nervous at the beginning, Tambus described the CB-NAT as a valuable experience that helped them test their knowledge and reminded them of the importance of studying and preparing for important examinations.

Sulangan IS, Sabayang Kumilos sa NSED
