We’ve just received Cardava Plantains from the Philippines and they’re causing a few double takes!

They might look like oversized bananas, but plantains are usually cooked before eating.
🥔 Slice and fry them for crispy plantain chips.
🍯 Let them ripen and fry them for a sweet caramelised treat. 🔥 Grill, bake, or add them to your favourite savoury dishes.

These old photos gave us a big smile.
The coloured photo was taken back in the 1970s, and the other we're not quite sure when it was taken. What we do know is that this little store has been part of the community for a very long time.
In fact, a general store first opened on this site back in 1953, meaning this corner of Mangawhai Heads has been serving locals and visitors for more than 70 years.

So much has changed over the years, but it's pretty special to think that generations of locals and visitors have shopped here, grabbed an ice cream, picked up dinner, or simply stopped in for a chat.

Fresh seafood lovers are in for a treat with our NZ Mussels arriving this morning, plus we have Bluff Salmon, fresh NZ Gurnard, and Oysters waiting for you. 🦪🐟

Firing up the BBQ? 🔥 We’ve got plenty of great options for the meat lovers too, with heaps of tasty choices ready to throw on the grill.
