The Yellowstone bourbon brand has a long storied history. Yellowstone Bourbon was started by J.B. Dant (son of J.W. Dant) who, along with D.H. Taylor and J.T. Williams, founded the Yellowstone Distillery in the late 1880s. Over the years the distillery changed ownership several times, eventually landing in the hands of David Sherman in the 1990s. In 2006, the David Sherman Company rebranded itself to Luxco as a tribute to one of its co-founders, Paul Lux. In 2010, Paul and Steve Beam (descendants of both J.W. Dant and the Beam family) founded Limestone Branch Distillery, and in 2015, they partnered with Luxco to bring the Yellowstone brand back to its ancestral origins.

Yellowstone Bourbon borrows its moniker from America’s first national park. The company donates a portion of Yellowstone Bourbon’s proceeds to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). This independent, nonpartisan organization is devoted to nurturing America’s national parks for future generations.

NOSE:
A simple and straightforward combination of lightly toasted oak, vanilla, a hint of caramel, and spice immediately greet you. Exploring further reveals baking spice, light marshmallow, and a dab of grain in the form of crackers. While they won’t blow you away or make you stop to ponder what’s in the glass, the aromas do blend well together and make for a nice opening to the sip.

PALATE:
Oak and vanilla carry over from the nose and are joined by bursts of summer peaches, leather, and light caramel. A subtle brown sugar sweetness rounds out the light creamy mouthfeel. It’s a subtle yet satisfying blend of flavors and makes for an enjoyable midpoint of the sip.

FINISH:
A dash of vanilla and sweet oak start off the finish. These flavors quickly morph to noticeably drier notes of oak, leather, and white peppercorn. There’s a very light undertone of spice that provides a nice heat. The finish is shorter in nature but aligns well with the rest of the sip.

"The term 'monkey shoulder' harks back to our whisky making heritage. It’s a reference to a condition that maltmen sometimes picked up while working long shifts, turning the barley by hand. It had a tendency to cause their arm to hang down a bit like a monkey’s, so they nicknamed it 'monkey shoulder'. Whilst our Malt-Men are among the few who still turn the barley manually, working conditions have changed which means this injury has been consigned to the past. Today, the name Monkey Shoulder lives on as an affectionate tribute, to honour the hard graft of all the Malt-Men past and present. Cheers! Making Monkey Shoulder: One day, our legendary Malt Master David Stewart decided to create the world’s first 'triple' malt, by combining single malts from three of Speyside’s finest distilleries. Why's it so mellow? Well, for starters, there’s not a single drop of grain whisky in our Monkey Shoulder, and the chosen malts mature in first fill ex-bourbon casks. Our own coopers repair these ex-bourbon casks so that they impart a smooth and mellow vanilla flavour into the resting malt whisky. And then, there's Brian Kinsman our new who's our Master now. He always chooses the right combination of casks for every batch he makes, ensuring each one is deliciously smooth and rich as the last. A Th*****me is Better than a One some: The three Speyside malts are then blended together in a small marrying tun where they hang out making eyes at each other for anything from three to six months. A Marriage Made in Heaven: When it’s ready and taste tested by Brian, this triple malt whisky gets bottled and receives its triple monkey badge. Destined for great bars and homes, that’s our Monkey Shoulder.

Smooth and rich, 100% malt Scotch whisky, distilled, matured and bottled in Dufftown, Scotland. Some say it tastes just like riding ba****ck on the wild moors of Scotland with a flame haired maiden on Christmas morning. Others agree it tastes like 007 wearing a tuxedo wetsuit. If you haven’t tried either yet but want a handy little cheat sheet to check out, here you go - but remember it’s completely up to you, what you think it tastes like.
