Katharine Maude recently met with dynamic Ch. Bourgneuf winemaker Frédérique Vayron to taste the 2024 vintage (plus having the unexpected pleasure of a vertical tasting). It’s very much a family affair at Chez Bourgneuf, with Mother Dominique - an active artist, whose work adorns the wall of the tasting room - and Father Xavier who keeps an eye on things. Ch. Bourgneuf enjoys an enviably sunny aspect, with its legendary clay and gravel soils adding characteristic richness, concentration & finesse. So what does this mean for the inclement vintage of 2024? Pleasing aromatics, super-smooth & juicy mouth-feel, which (as usual) over-performs. 🍷 This one will be making it to my future dinner table.

Glistening cold bottles of liquid gold. Perfectly balanced acidity, flavour and sweetness. 🥂

Sauternes/Barsac - the famous sweet wines of Bordeaux - are so good served super-chilled as an aperitif.
More traditionally you will find them paired with foie gras, cheese or dessert. 🧀
I personally prefer them at the end of a long working day, shared with a loved one or friend with feet up and on the couch.
Served of course, in a dainty and frosty-cold glass.

Peter Maude Fine Wines was founded over 40 years ago in 1978.

Peter Maude Fine Wines (PMFW) represents some of the greatest wine names from the famous French wine regions; Burgundy and Bordeaux, the Rhône Valley, Alsace and Champagne. In addition, we offer a small selection of Italian, U.S (California) wines, as well as some Port.

​Peter Maude brings our clients a deep knowledge of wines, up-to-date and lively anecdotes of France's vineyards and it's proud vignerons, and of course, their wine, via our email newsletter {Click here to subscribe).

​Peter visits the Domaines and Chateaux a few times each year. He keeps abreast with news of the vineyards, the wine-makers and the must-have wines, and more importantly, secures desirable and hard-to-get vintages for his clients. Peter tastes and evaluates wines from the barrel, and gets vintage-by-vintage allocations of the very best wines (En-Primeur). The many years of building these partnerships has resulted in New Zealand's finest offerings of the best wines of France.
