Saumagen, the Pfalz's pork, potato and marjoram classic, was the dish Helmut Kohl served to Thatcher, Gorbachev, Reagan and Clinton. In autumn, chestnuts often join the filling. Locals pour dry Riesling with it.

Born in 1976. Fifty years on, still in the glass.

Clos du Mont-Olivet's Grenache-led Châteauneuf-du-Pape, made the traditional way in concrete and foudre. Garnet turning amber, with dried fig, garrigue and truffle. A 50th-birthday w**e, and we have only 2 bottles left.
