Nigerian troops have intensified their crackdown on notorious bandit leader Bello Turji in Zamfara State. According to Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism expert, the military has dismantled Turji's key hideouts in Fakai, Shinkafi Local Government Area, following a series of successful missions.¹

The military targeted multiple bandit camps in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area, including Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, Zangon Kagara, and a school used by Turji to store food and weapons. The school was burned to prevent it from being used as a supply base.

Intelligence sources revealed that Turji's group has suffered significant losses, including the killing of his son and many fighters. Turji was also heard calling for reinforcements from other bandit leaders, but none responded.

The military operation has neutralized several of Turji's associates, including high-profile lieutenants and family members. Additionally, four of Turji's fighters were injured, and others have retreated to Mangwarorin Gebe, hiding stolen livestock and valuables.

The Nigeria national football team, the Super Eagles, is en route back to Nigeria after external pressure prompted the Libyan government to permit the refueling of their chartered jet and grant airspace clearance.

The team had endured a 15-hour ordeal at Al Abraq International Airport without basic necessities.

According to sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, the Libyan government relented, allowing ValueJet Airline to operate and supply fuel.

Initially, Libyan authorities proposed a pre-clearance landing in Benghazi, but the NFF secured direct clearance from Al-Abraq to Nigeria.

Ibrahim Daji, a notorious bandit leader, has been eliminated in Kwanar Nasir, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, as reported by Zagazola Makama, a specialized publication focused on counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region.

On Sunday, Daji was killed by members of a rival faction, with his body left at the scene.

His criminal activities included leading violent attacks along the Kwatarkwashi-Mada road and surrounding areas, with Shangel village serving as his stronghold.

Daji was also known for purchasing kidnapped victims within Gusau, thereby expanding his influence over regional criminal networks.

Additionally, he provided refuge to other criminals, such as Bello Taggoje, in his Shangel village residence.

Daji's significant following made his death a crucial milestone in the fight against banditry in Zamfara State, given his prominent role in the region's network of armed criminals.

Four youths have been killed in Plateau State following an attack by gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Areas of the state on Friday night.

It was learnt that the victims were working at a mining site in the Batura community when the gunmen attacked them around 9 pm, killing four persons on the spot.

The President of the Butura Youth Movement, Sabastine Magit, confirmed the killings in a statement on Saturday.

Magit said the gunmen also injured five other persons during the attack before they fled the area.

The youth leader gave the names of those killed as Bwefuk Musa, 21; Klingshak Dickson, 21; Promise Joshua, 20, and Nyam Abaka, 20.

The statement read, “In yet another unprovoked assault on members of the Butura community, armed terrorists, speaking the Fulani dialect, opened fire on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako in the Butura district of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State on October 10.

“The attack was carried out at approximately 9pm without any provocation, leading to the death of four innocent people and the injury of five others.

“This attack occurred just four days after a tragic incident in the village of Wumat, where five members of a family, including a pregnant mother, lost their lives.

“Eyewitnesses report that the assailants executed a lightning-fast operation on October 10, fleeing the scene before military personnel stationed at a nearby checkpoint could respond. Tragically, four individuals were killed instantly, and five others sustained injuries. The deceased are: Bwefuk Musa, 21 years; Klingshak Dickson, 21 years; Promise Joshua, 20 years and Nyam Abaka, 20 years.”

The statement noted that the killing of the four youths was the latest in a series of unprovoked attacks on their community, which has seen over 20 of their members killed in the last month alone, all attributed to identified Fulani assailants.

Contacted, the spokesman for the Plateau State Command, Alabo Alfred, and the spokesman for the Military Taskforce in charge of maintaining peace in the state, Major Samson Zhakom, as well as the state Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms were not readily available to comment on the incident as several calls put across to their phone lines rang out.
