I remember my experience as a new mom. Baby was two weeks old when my mom had to leave.
I would smiled, but my eyes told another story tired, overwhelmed, and trying to be strong. I was constantly crying because I had a tear that was stitched and the pain was unbearable.
My husband would come home, take the baby from my arms and said, "Go and sleep. I’ve got this."

That moment?
That’s support.
Becoming a new mom changes everything, your body, your emotions, your sleep, your identity. And in this fragile season, a husband’s support can make the difference between survival and healing.
Here are 10 real, practical ways a man can support his wife as a new mom:

1. Show up emotionally, not just physically
She doesn’t just need you in the house she needs you present.
Ask her how she’s really feeling. Listen without fixing. Sometimes, your quiet presence is the loudest reassurance.

2. Help with the baby, confidently
Don’t “assist.” Parent.
Change diapers. Rock the baby. Learn her cries. The more you do, the less alone she feels.
A supported mom heals faster.

3. Take over household chores
Dishes, laundry, cooking, these things don’t disappear because a baby arrived.
When you take them off her plate, you give her space to rest and recover.

4. Protect her rest like it’s sacred
Sleep deprivation is real and dangerous.
Create pockets of rest for her handle night feeds when possible, take the baby so she can nap, or manage visitors so she can sleep.
Rest is not luxury. It’s recovery.

5. Reassure her constantly
Her body has changed. Her emotions feel unfamiliar.
Tell her she’s doing well. Tell her she’s beautiful. Tell her you’re proud of her.
New moms need reassurance more than advice.

6. Be patient with mood changes
Postpartum emotions can come in waves, tears, silence, anger, anxiety.
Don’t dismiss it. Don’t shame it. Stay gentle.
This season is temporary, but how you treat her will be remembered forever.

7. Watch her mental health closely
Sometimes it’s more than “baby blues.”
If she seems withdrawn, overwhelmed, or hopeless, speak up and seek help together. Supporting her mental health is loving her deeply.

Motherhood is one role that you never really understand until you experience all the roller coster emotions and demands that comes from it .

When I became a mother less than one year after my marriage, I didn't really know how to handle everything. I was 25 at the time, finished with B.Ed and waiting for my Nysc.

I ventured into makeup, hairstyling and cake making. I never had time to pause and enjoy pregnancy because my circumstances didn't allow it at the time. I never thought about Motherhood or what challenges I might face as an mompreneur until reality sets in.

I didn't realise my baby was not latching well reason why I would breastfeed for hours yet he was not full and would cry immediately I try to stop or just give up, sleep a bit and cry for food again.

Then one day I was going through Instagram and saw a page selling breastfeeding cookies and snacks for mothers, I picked the number and called, the person picked up and while trying to make recommendations for me, she realised I was a first time mom.

Further discussion with her opened my eyes to questions I never thought of, :

Was my baby latching properly?

Have I tried expressing with pump?

Have I monitored the quantity of milk he consume through my baby bottles?

Why did I conclude I wasn't lactating well that made baby always hungry and crying?

I thanked her and swung into action immediately as my baby was drastically loosing weight .

I found my answers:

My baby was not latching well, infact my ni***es were still clogged because he couldn't suck hard enough to open them.

I was experiencing severe pains due to excess milk that needed to be expressed.

I expressed breastmilk with my hands and my baby finished 40mils at a go and slept for 2 hours straight.

I didn't even need breastfeeding cookies because my supply was too high I just had to buy a breastfeeding pump.

my baby went from 40mls to 160 in few days and before you know it he started sleeping more , I finally slept at night because hubby made it a point of duty to feed him at night and only woke me when he needed me to pump more breastmilk for them.

That was how I conquered my first Motherhood challenge that drained me but ta

At what month did you register for your antenatal?
Nurses/doctors please what is the best month or time to start antenatal?

I saw a post about how women who register for antenatal earlier feels somehow about their bump not showing yet.
While I think everyone's journey is different and what works for A does not work for B, I believe necessary tests , scan and prenatal vitamins should be followed up with immediately you get pregnant especially taking your folic acid to avoid birth defects.

Mothers and nurses let's discuss, someone might be learning

On Wednesday, I had the honour of attending the Measles–Rubella vaccine flag-off here in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area with our Vice Chairman, and honestly, it was such an eye-opening and important experience.

This campaign is all about protecting our children from measles and rubella, two very serious but completely preventable childhood diseases. The Measles–Rubella (MR) vaccine helps build strong immunity in children and protects them from complications that can affect them for life.

For our mothers and caregivers, this vaccine is for children from 9 months up to 14 years. Even if your child looks healthy, even if they’ve taken other vaccines before, this one is still very important. It gives added protection and helps stop the spread of these diseases in our communities.

Measles is not just a normal rash or fever. It can lead to pneumonia, severe diarrhoea, blindness, brain damage, and sadly, even death in some cases.

Rubella, on the other hand, may seem mild in children, but it is extremely dangerous when a woman gets infected during pregnancy. It can cause miscarriage or serious birth defects like heart problems, hearing loss, and developmental challenges in babies.

One major disadvantage of not taking this vaccine is that it leaves children vulnerable. When many children are not vaccinated, outbreaks happen faster, and the most at-risk children suffer the most. Vaccination doesn’t just protect one child , it protects every child.

The beautiful thing about this ongoing Measles–Rubella campaign is that the vaccine is safe, effective, and free. It has been approved by health authorities and is being administered by trained healthcare workers across health centres and outreach points.

As a mother, an educator, and a mental health advocate, this means a lot to me. Healthy children grow into confident, thriving adults, and prevention will always be better than cure.

So I’m encouraging every parent, guardian, and caregiver in Amuwo Odofin and in all other Nigerian states, please take your children aged 9 months to 14 years to get the Measles–Rubella vaccine.
Let’s protect our children and families.

Let's talk about prostate screening and why it is important.

The prostate is a small gland found only in men, and as men grow older, it can develop problems such as enlargement, infection, or cancer.
Sadly, prostate cancer often shows no symptoms in its early stage, which is why many men find out too late.
Prostate screening helps detect problems early before pain, before complications, and before it becomes life-threatening. When detected early, prostate cancer is treatable and highly manageable.
Men aged 40 years and above, especially those with a family history, should go for regular prostate checks. Screening is simple, quick, and can save a life.
Men, your health matters.
Getting screened is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wisdom, responsibility, and self-love.
Get screened. Stay informed. Stay alive.

Blossom beyond Limitations Initiative has organised a prostrate screening for 22nd March, , you can share this post so that people close there can benefit from it for free.

Storytelling is a powerful tool for emotional connection and growth. 🌱

When a mother shares stories with her child, it nurtures curiosity and joy while creating a safe space for expression. This practice can reduce anxiety and enhance self-confidence in children.

Moreover, it strengthens bonds between parent and child, fostering empathy and understanding.

In a warm, cozy environment, stories become gateways to imagination and learning, enriching emotional well-being.

Encourage storytelling in your home; it’s not just entertainment—it's a fundamental part of healthy emotional development.
