EPISODE 10: A Cry for Mercy

Ada’s tears fell freely as she knelt by the riverbank.

“Please… stop this,” she cried. “They didn’t understand. Please forgive them.”

The remaining children clung to each other, shaking with fear.

“We’re sorry!” they shouted. “We didn’t know! Please!”

The river slowly began to calm, but a heavy silence remained.

The spirit looked at Ada, its eyes searching her heart.

“You still choose to plead for them… even after all they’ve done to you,” it said.

Ada wiped her tears.

“They are still my family,” she whispered. “I don’t want to lose them.”

For a moment, everything stood still.

Then the spirit raised its hand gently.

“The consequences of pride cannot be erased,” it said. “But mercy… can reduce the pain.”

The wind softened.

The water settled.

The children who remained collapsed to the ground, weak but alive.

Ada quickly ran to them, helping them up.

“Thank you… thank you,” they cried, holding onto her.

But Ada’s heart was still heavy.

One of them was gone.

And nothing could bring them back.

“Go home,” the spirit said quietly. “And remember this day.”

Ada nodded, her eyes filled with sorrow.

As they walked back, the once proud children were silent, their hearts filled with regret.

When they reached home, Aunt Nkem rushed out.

“What happened?” she demanded.

The children broke down in tears.

“Mama… we lost one of us,” they cried.

Aunt Nkem froze.

“What…?” her voice trembled.

As the truth began to unfold, her face changed from shock…

To anger.

Her eyes slowly turned toward Ada.

“This is your fault,” she said coldly.

Ada stepped back, stunned.

But deep down…

She knew this was far from over.

EPISODE 9: The First Loss

The wind howled fiercely around the forbidden river.

Aunt Nkem’s children stood frozen, their confidence gone, replaced by fear.

“We should go…” one of them said, stepping back.

But it was too late.

The river began to rise, the water swirling like it had a life of its own.

“Help!” another cried as the ground beneath them grew slippery.

One of the younger children lost their footing and fell.

The others screamed, trying to grab them—but the force of the water pulled them away.

In a flash—

The river swallowed the child.

Silence.

For a moment, no one moved.

“No… no… this can’t be happening,” one of them whispered, shaking.

The spirit’s voice echoed, heavy and firm.

“You came with pride and ignored the warning.”

Terror filled their eyes.

“Please! Save us!” they cried.

But the river only grew more restless.

Back at home, Ada could not sit still.

Her heart pounded uncontrollably.

“I have to go,” she said, rushing out before anyone could stop her.

When she reached the river, she saw them—scattered, crying, and trembling.

“What happened?” Ada shouted, running toward them.

“They… they’re gone!” one of them cried.

Ada’s heart broke instantly.

She turned toward the spirit, tears in her eyes.

“Please… have mercy,” she begged.

The spirit looked at her, its expression unreadable.

“They chose their path,” it said.

Ada fell to her knees, crying.

“I’m begging you… please don’t let more of them be lost.”

The river calmed slightly… but not completely.

The danger was still there.

And the punishment…

Was not yet over.

EPISODE 8: The River’s Warning

Aunt Nkem’s children arrived at the forbidden river, their footsteps loud and careless.

Unlike Ada, they did not walk with humility or fear.

“Is this the place?” one of them said, looking around.

“Yes,” another replied. “Call it out like Ada does.”

One of them stepped forward boldly.

“Hey! Spirit of the river!” he shouted. “Come out! We know you’re there!”

The river remained still.

They laughed.

“Maybe it’s afraid of us,” another said proudly.

Then suddenly—

The water began to ripple.

Slowly… gently… the glowing spirit rose again.

But this time, something was different.

Its face was no longer calm.

Its eyes were sharp.

“You come with noise… and pride,” the spirit said.

The children exchanged glances but stood their ground.

“Yes,” one of them said boldly. “We came for our blessings. Give us what you gave Ada… no, give us more!”

The river grew darker.

The air became heavy.

“Blessings are not demanded,” the spirit replied. “They are earned through patience, kindness, and humility.”

The children frowned.

“We don’t have time for that,” one snapped. “Just give it to us!”

For a moment, silence filled the air.

Then the spirit spoke again, its voice now cold.

“If it is power you seek without understanding… then power you shall receive.”

The water began to swirl violently.

The children stepped back, suddenly afraid.

“What is happening?” one whispered.

The spirit slowly raised its hand.

“You were warned.”

Back at home, Ada suddenly felt a sharp fear in her chest.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

At the river, the wind roared, and the once peaceful place turned into something terrifying.

And in that moment…

The first consequence began.

EPISODE 7:
A Dangerous Plan

That night, Aunt Nkem could not sleep.

She sat in the dark, her mind filled with one thought—Ada must not be the only one to receive favor.

“If that river can bless her,” she whispered, “then my children will receive even greater blessings.”

Early the next morning, she called her sons and daughters together.

“Listen carefully,” she said. “You will go to the forbidden river today.”

The children looked at each other, both excited and afraid.

“But Mama… that place is dangerous,” one of them said.

Aunt Nkem’s face hardened.

“Did anything happen to Ada?” she snapped. “Or has she not returned every day with good fortune?”

They went silent.

“You will do exactly what she does,” she continued. “Speak to whatever is in that river and demand your own blessings.”

“Demand?” another child asked.

“Yes,” she said firmly. “You are better than her. You deserve more.”

The words filled their hearts with pride and confidence.

Meanwhile, Ada listened quietly from a distance, fear tightening her chest.

She remembered the spirit’s warning.

“Not everyone will be happy for your blessing.”

As the children prepared to leave, Ada gathered the courage to speak.

“Please… don’t go,” she said softly. “It’s not what you think. The river—”

“Keep quiet!” Aunt Nkem shouted. “You don’t want them to be blessed like you, is that it?”

Ada shook her head quickly. “No, that’s not it—”

But no one listened.

The children picked up their pots and headed toward the forest, laughter and excitement in their voices.

Ada stood there, helpless.

Deep in her heart, she felt something was about to go terribly wrong.

And far away, at the river…

The water began to stir.

EPISODE 6: The Secret Revealed

Before sunrise, Ada quietly picked up her clay pot and began her journey to the forbidden river.

The air was cold, and the forest unusually silent.

But she wasn’t alone.

Hidden behind trees and moving carefully, Aunt Nkem’s children followed her.

“Don’t let her see us,” one whispered.

They watched as Ada reached the riverbank and gently placed her pot down.

“I have come,” Ada said softly.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then suddenly—

The river began to glow.

The children gasped quietly, their eyes wide with shock.

From the water, the glowing spirit appeared once again.

“She was telling the truth…” one of them whispered.

They listened closely as the spirit spoke.

“You have done well, Ada,” it said. “Your kindness continues to open doors for you.”

Ada smiled. “Thank you…”

But before the spirit could say more—

A twig snapped.

Ada turned quickly.

“Who’s there?” she asked, fear rising in her voice.

The children tried to hide, but it was too late.

They stepped out slowly.

“We saw everything,” one of them said.

Ada’s heart dropped.

“Please… don’t tell Auntie,” she begged.

But jealousy had already taken over their hearts.

They ran back home without saying another word.

The spirit’s face grew serious.

“The secret is no longer safe,” it warned. “Prepare yourself. What comes next will test you.”

Ada stood frozen, fear replacing her hope.

Back at home, the children rushed to their mother.

“Mama! Mama! Ada is hiding something at the river!” they shouted.

Aunt Nkem’s face darkened as they explained everything.

“So… that is her secret,” she said slowly, anger rising within her.

Her eyes burned with jealousy.

“If she can be favored… then my children deserve it more.”

That night, she made a dangerous decision.

One that would change everything.

EPISODE 5: Seeds of Jealousy

Days passed, and Ada’s life continued to change in quiet but powerful ways.

Everything she touched seemed to work out perfectly. The food always tasted better, her chores became easier, and even her appearance began to glow with a natural beauty no one could explain.

People in the village started to notice.

“Is that not Ada?”

“The same girl they used to call ‘not fine’?”

“She looks… different.”

The whispers spread quickly.

But inside the house, the atmosphere grew tense.

Aunt Nkem could not understand it.

“How is this girl suddenly shining?” she muttered one afternoon, her eyes fixed on Ada.

Her children were even more bothered.

One evening, as they sat together, they began to complain.

“Mama, this is not normal,” one of them said.

“She goes to that river every day. Maybe she’s doing something there,” another added.

Aunt Nkem’s eyes narrowed.

“The forbidden river…” she whispered.

That night, she called Ada.

“Tomorrow,” she said, her voice cold, “you will go to the river earlier than usual.”

Ada’s heart skipped.

“Yes, Auntie,” she replied softly.

But something in Aunt Nkem’s tone made her uneasy.

As Ada walked away, Aunt Nkem turned to her children.

“Follow her,” she said quietly. “I want to know what she is hiding.”

The children nodded, a mix of curiosity and jealousy burning in their eyes.

Unaware of the plan, Ada lay down to sleep that night, holding onto the hope the spirit had given her.

But in the shadows…

A dangerous secret was about to be uncovered.

EPISODE 4:
The First Sign of Favor
The next morning, Ada woke up feeling different.
For the first time in years, her body didn’t ache from stress and exhaustion. It was as if a quiet strength had settled inside her.
As usual, Aunt Nkem shouted from outside, “Ada! Come and cook before my children wake up!”
Ada rushed to the kitchen. But something unexpected happened.
The firewood, which normally took her so long to light, caught fire instantly.
The pot she struggled to lift felt lighter.
Even the food cooked faster than usual.
Ada paused.
“What is happening…?” she whispered.
Later that day, as she went to fetch water again, the spirit appeared almost immediately.
“You are beginning to receive favor,” it said.
Ada looked at her hands in disbelief. “Is this… your doing?”
The spirit smiled gently. “It is the reward for your patience. But this is only the beginning.”
That evening, something even more shocking happened.
Aunt Nkem tasted the food Ada prepared and paused.
For once… she didn’t complain.
“This is… good,” she said slowly.
Ada’s eyes widened. She had never heard those words before.
But across the room, her cousins exchanged glances.
Something was not right.
“How did she suddenly start doing everything perfectly?” one of them whispered.
Another frowned. “She’s hiding something.”
From that moment, suspicion began to grow in the house.
And Aunt Nkem… started watching Ada more closely.
That night, as Ada lay down to sleep, she smiled quietly.
For the first time in her life, things were changing.
But she didn’t know…
That favor often attracts envy.
And trouble was already beginning to rise.

EPISODE 3:
A Secret Begins
Ada could not sleep that night.
She lay on the cold floor, staring into the darkness, replaying everything that had happened at the river. The voice… the glowing figure… the strange promise.
“Return tomorrow…”
What did it mean?
Before dawn, Aunt Nkem’s harsh voice broke the silence.
“Ada! Get up! Are you planning to sleep your life away?”
Ada quickly stood up and began her chores. Sweeping, cooking, washing — she did everything without complaint. But her mind was far away… at the forbidden river.
Later that day, as expected, Aunt Nkem handed her the empty clay pot.
“Go to the river. And don’t be lazy!”
Ada nodded quietly and began her journey once again.
But this time… her steps were different.
She wasn’t just afraid.
She was curious.
When she reached the river, her heart began to beat fast again.
The place was just as silent as before.
She stepped closer to the water.
“I… I came back,” she said softly.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then suddenly—
The water shimmered.
And the glowing figure rose again.
“You kept your word,” the spirit said, a faint smile on its face.
Ada swallowed nervously. “Why… why are you helping me?”
The spirit looked at her kindly.
“Because your heart is pure, even in pain. And those who endure with kindness are never forgotten.”
Ada felt tears sting her eyes again.
The spirit stretched out its hand, and the river glowed brighter.
“From today,” it said, “your life will begin to change. But you must keep this a secret. Tell no one… no matter what happens.”
Ada nodded quickly.
“I promise.”
The spirit’s eyes grew serious.
“Be careful. Not everyone will be happy for your blessing.”
At that moment, a strange chill ran down Ada’s spine.
As she filled her pot and turned to leave, she didn’t notice a pair of eyes watching her from behind the trees…
Eyes filled with suspicion.
And growing jealousy.
