Not Fine, Yet Chosen by Destiny
EPISODE 10: A Cry for Mercy
Ada’s tears fell freely as she knelt by the riverbank.
“Please… stop this,” she cried. “They didn’t understand. Please forgive them.”
The remaining children clung to each other, shaking with fear.
“We’re sorry!” they shouted. “We didn’t know! Please!”
The river slowly began to calm, but a heavy silence remained.
The spirit looked at Ada, its eyes searching her heart.
“You still choose to plead for them… even after all they’ve done to you,” it said.
Ada wiped her tears.
“They are still my family,” she whispered. “I don’t want to lose them.”
For a moment, everything stood still.
Then the spirit raised its hand gently.
“The consequences of pride cannot be erased,” it said. “But mercy… can reduce the pain.”
The wind softened.
The water settled.
The children who remained collapsed to the ground, weak but alive.
Ada quickly ran to them, helping them up.
“Thank you… thank you,” they cried, holding onto her.
But Ada’s heart was still heavy.
One of them was gone.
And nothing could bring them back.
“Go home,” the spirit said quietly. “And remember this day.”
Ada nodded, her eyes filled with sorrow.
As they walked back, the once proud children were silent, their hearts filled with regret.
When they reached home, Aunt Nkem rushed out.
“What happened?” she demanded.
The children broke down in tears.
“Mama… we lost one of us,” they cried.
Aunt Nkem froze.
“What…?” her voice trembled.
As the truth began to unfold, her face changed from shock…
To anger.
Her eyes slowly turned toward Ada.
“This is your fault,” she said coldly.
Ada stepped back, stunned.
But deep down…
She knew this was far from over.
