We work with Myanmar artisans, disadvantaged groups and small businesses to design, develop and sell quality handmade products with a contemporary twist. We provide a sustainable market place, skill trainings and creative design input to support the livelihoods of our producers, many of whom are struggling to overcome disability, exclusion and poverty

. Hla Day aims to capture the unique flavours of Myanmar design by locally sourcing all materials and celebrating traditional skills. Our empowering approach allows customers and producers to enjoy and benefit from unique Myanmar handicrafts.

Black Elephant Studio

Founded in 2000 by Veronica Gritsenko, Black Elephant Lacquer is a studio dedicated to producing the finest quality, traditional style lacquer in Myanmar. Veronica and her talented team of expert craftsmen and women create contemporary designs while using the traditional methods. They uses ancient techniques and methods to produce the correct weight and constistency of the lacquer pieces, the result of which is a piece of art that lasts a lifetime.

Today, this craftsmanship is recognized worldwide, with pieces held in the permanent collections of major institutions including the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, and the Museo d'Arte Orientale in Turin.
