Pakistan ‘ready to host US-Iran talks’: Can latest peace push work?


Pakistan, Turkiye and Egypt are trying to broker talks. But analysts caution the chasm between the US and Iran remains wide.
Islamabad, Pakistan – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said Pakistan is ready to host talks between the United States and Iran amid US President Donald Trump’s claims of ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“If the parties desire, Islamabad is always willing to host talks,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told Al Jazeera on Tuesday. “It has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy to promote peace and stability in the region.”

India has agreed to play additional T20 international matches during their tour of Sri Lanka in August as part of efforts to support relief and recovery work following Cyclone Ditwah, Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Shammi Silva said.

Speaking on the matter, Silva said the additional T20Is will be played when the India national cricket team tour Sri Lanka for their ICC World Test Championship series later this year.

He said the decision was taken as a gesture of solidarity with Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread damage across several parts of the country

Silva further revealed that India had also agreed to tour Sri Lanka in late December to play two T20 internationals aimed at raising funds for cyclone relief. However, the matches could not be organised due to the unavailability of a broadcaster within the limited timeframe.

“There was willingness from India to come down at the end of December to play two T20Is to raise funds, but there was simply no time to organise it, especially with no broadcaster available,” Silva said.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman expressed appreciation for India’s support, noting that the additional matches scheduled for August will help generate much-needed revenue and attention for ongoing relief and rebuilding efforts.

Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed R. Sridhar as the National Team Fielding Coach until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 🏏

A BCCI Level 3 qualified coach, Sridhar brings vast experience after serving as India’s fielding coach from 2014 to 2021, covering more than 300 international matches.

He will work closely with the Sri Lanka squad during the upcoming tours of Pakistan and England, while leading preparations for the T20 World Cup.

🗣️ “My role is not to impose a system, but to nurture an environment where athleticism, awareness, and pride in the field can grow naturally,” Sridhar said.

His appointment is effective from December 11, 2025 to March 10, 2026
