Etna, Summer 2026 🌋
On July 30, the Voragine erupted again. Around 3:30 a.m., Strombolian activity began, followed by lava fountains hundreds of meters high and a 7-km-high ash cloud that the wind pushed toward Bronte. That evening, an effusive fissure also opened in the Valle del Leone at 2,700 meters, with a lava flow that rapidly descended to 1,700 meters.
It was a brief but intense episode that lasted until August 2. After another paroxysm on August 6—which led to the closure of Catania Airport—seismic activity plummeted starting on August 15, and Mother Etna finally calmed down. Always a spectacular sight 🔥
