“Oh, a little top up…” 🍷 New episode out now!

Sinéad O’Sullivan argues France might be the opposite of anti-fragile, its AOCs and unwillingness to move leaving it exposed. Tom Gearing pushes back: is that rigidity actually a guarantee of quality?

A proper debate, in Episode 15 of Uncorked.

🎙️ New season. Big questions.

Season 2 of Uncorked is officially underway.

For Episode 1, we’re joined by Pauline Vicard of Areni Global to explore whether wine is still culturally relevant, what turns a buyer into a collector, and why community may be the most undervalued asset in fine wine.

Bordeaux En Primeur 2025: Day Four… 💭 🍷

A fitting close to the week, with a day of two halves across Pomerol and Pessac-Léognan.

Pomerol delivered generous, aromatic wines, while Pessac-Léognan was defined by balance, freshness and finesse.

Vieux Château Certan stood out on the Right Bank, with Haut-Bailly and Smith Haut Lafitte leading the way on the Left Bank.

Across both banks, a consistent theme remains: freshness, precision and complexity, shaped by a hot, dry summer and cooler nights preserving acidity.

A strong finish to what is shaping up to be an exceptional vintage.

Bordeaux En Primeur 2025: Day Three… 💭 🍷

A standout day on the Right Bank, with Saint-Émilion delivering something truly special.

A clear stylistic shift from the Left Bank, with Merlot-led blends, limestone soils, and wines showing real floral finesse alongside depth and concentration.

Cheval Blanc closed the day in style, an extraordinary wine and a highlight of the week so far. While Angélus, Beau-Séjour Bécot and Troplong Mondot all delivered exceptional wines.

Across the board, freshness, complexity and precision are defining the vintage, with remarkable quality from Grand Vins right through to second wines and second labels.

Next stop: Pomerol.

Bordeaux En Primeur 2025: Day Two… 💭 🍷

Another strong day in Bordeaux, with consistency continuing to define the vintage across Pessac-Léognan, Margaux and Saint-Julien.

Power and concentration in Pessac, finesse and perfume in Margaux, and structure with real depth in Saint-Julien.

Château Margaux was a standout, an early contender for wine of the vintage, while Palmer, Ducru-Beaucaillou and Léoville-Las Cases all delivered serious performances.
Tannins are polished, alcohol levels remain balanced, and quality is holding across the board, including the second wines.

Next stop: Saint-Émilion.

Bordeaux En Primeur 2025: Initial thoughts… 💭 🍷

A strong first day in Bordeaux, with one thing standing out above all else: consistency. Very few disappointing wines, and many outperforming expectations.

The second wines are already showing real quality, always a promising sign for the vintage overall.

Standouts so far include Latour, Lafite and Mouton, with Pontet-Canet and Pichon Lalande also delivering impressive performances.

A warm, dry vintage, but with freshness and balance coming through clearly. Approachable now, with serious long-term potential.

Next stop: Pessac-Léognan, Graves, Margaux and Saint-Julien.
