Πόσα tea towels είναι αρκετά tea towels ?
Σκηνικό: σπίτι σε νησί, από εκείνα που για πάτωμα έχει μεγάλες κρύες πέτρες, τα κρεβάτια χτιστά και οι τοίχοι σαγρέ που αν τυχόν χτυπήσεις πάνω τους με λίγη περισσότερη δύναμη, περνάνε από το μυαλό σου όλα τα γαλλικά που ξέρεις!
Αυλή, με πέτρες και χώμα, θέα θάλασσα και μοσχοβολιστά δέντρα. Γιασεμί και ζουμπούλια στις γλάστρες και μπόλικη αγάπη! Ήχοι απο τζιτζίκια και ζέστη! Κι εσύ, να βγαίνεις ξυπόλιτ@ στην αυλή, να απολαύσεις τον ελληνικό καφέ(freddo? ποιός freddo? ) και να αφήνεσαι στη μαγεία του «τίποτα»…
Κάπου εκεί, μια γιαγιά, μια μαμά, ένας μπαμπάς, μια φίλη, το αγόρι ή το κορίτσι σου, ο αγαπημένος σου θείος, ή η πάντα πρόσχαρη γειτόνισσα, εμφανίζεται με πετσετάκι να στεγνώνει ποτήρια, ή φρούτα που μόλις μάζεψε από τον κήπο και να σε ρωτάει
- «να σου φτιάξω κάτι να φας?»
- «ένα χυμό που κάνει καλό»?
- «έχω και φρέσκα αυγά από την κα. Μαρία»
Πόσο πιο ελληνικο καλοκαίρι το θες? ☀️

How many tea towels are enough tea towels?
Scene: a house on a Greek island.
The floor is made of large, cool stones.
The beds are built into the walls,
and the rough, textured plaster is the kind that—if you bump into it a bit too hard—
makes you recall every French word you know.
An open yard, a mix of stone and soil,
with a sea view and trees that smell like summer.
Jasmine and hyacinths in pots. Love in the air.
Cicadas singing. The heat wrapping around you.
And you? Barefoot in the courtyard,
sipping Greek coffee (freddo? who needs freddo here?)
and letting yourself melt into the magic of nothingness.
Somewhere in that stillness, someone appears:
a grandmother, a mother, a father, a friend,
your love, your cheerful uncle, or the always-smiling neighbor,
holding a tea towel —
drying glasses or fruit just picked from the garden —
and asking:
– “Can I make you something to eat?”
– “How about a juice, it’s good for you.”
– “I have fresh eggs from Mrs. Maria.”
How much more Greek summer could you possibly want?☀️
