In this series Leo and I will be busting some of the wine worlds most common myths and misconceptions, and we're starting with a classic...
'Wines with a cork are better than those with a screw cap'
This statement is most definitely a MYTH. The quality of a wine is determined by the winemaker, not the closure. Corks are of course the most traditional way of sealing in a wine, and lets face it, there is something magical about the sound of a bottle pop on a Friday night after a long week at work! But the truth is, screw caps are more reliable, easier to work with and will keep your wine fresher for longer. Although we don't envisage seeing any high end, old-world wine makers moving over to screw cap any time soon, many in the new-world have made the move away from cork. Most notably in New Zealand, where 90% of the wines they produce are now sealed with a screw cap to ensure the quality and consistency. That said, we're suckers for a cork, yes a screw cap is more practical, but is there something just a little more special about carefully pulling the cork from a special bottle of wine? We'll let you decide, but either way, we have plenty of delicious wines (cork & screw cap) available online at www.liquidindulgence.co.uk with speedy nationwide delivery and free click & collect available from our showroom in Riccall.
Until the next time, stay well & drink well 🍾
