Black Tot Day is the day the Royal Navy poured its final daily rum ration after over 300 years of tradition.

Some sailors commemorated with black arm bands and mock funerals, with some burying rum at sea!

We Dropped into The Cavendish Pub, London to try their Koko Reverie featuring Spice Drop and it did not disappoint!

I had the pleasure of meeting Head Bartender Furney who is a big DropWorks fan. I caught up with him over a few questions:

What is your favourite thing about bartending?

“It’s an incredibly sociable job, I’m quite a sociable person so it’s really nice to talk to loads of different people every day. It’s a very creative job particularly when it comes to cocktail design. I’m massively into music and I can kinda bring that into my cocktails. If you look at any of our menus over the last year and a half you’ll see that reflected in the menu. I also enjoy getting to just smash it out. When it’s busy and when the tickets are flying it’s so much fun!.”

What’s the strangest drink request you’ve had?

“Well, I’ve had a few, but one that I still think about to this day is when I’ve had people ask for a double of the Don Julio 1942 up there. I think oh they’re gonna try some nice tequila. I ask ‘How are you gonna have it?’ and they say ‘Can you make it in an espresso martini?’
To me, I think why have you taken such a nice liquid and then masked it behind a load of sugar and coffee flavours? It doesn’t make sense really!”

How would you describe DropWorks to someone who has never heard of us before?

“British Rum that actually tastes good!”

We tried one at Tamarind, Mayfair and we loved it!

This twist on the classic is part of their Terrace Cocktail Collection, featuring Clear Drop, calamansi, aromatic bitters, a touch of amaro, and topped with pink grapefruit soda.

Tamarind has one of the most beautiful terraces we’ve ever seen, so we feel honoured to be championed in such an amazing venue.

The oldest shopfront in Liverpool and some of the best cocktails in town🍹

We Dropped into in Liverpool and absolutely loved it! Once a vintage chemist, now a cool cocktail bar.

Once we knew Barrel Drop was on the bar, we had to check it out. I ordered a Junglebird and swapped to Barrel Drop as the base and it was delicious!

Shoutout to Chloe for the great service and for dodging the trap door (iykyk👀).

We’re obsessed with Piña Coladas, and we’re big fans of Horlicks too. So when we saw .bar mixing the two, we had to give it a go.

Here’s what you need for a Horlicks Spice Drop Piña Colada:

An Honourable Invitation 🇬🇧⚓

DropWorks Founder & Master Distiller, Lewis, was cordially invited to attend the prestigious HMS Sherwood Royal Navy Service event held at Nottingham City Council House—where the entire building was illuminated in blue to mark a remarkable milestone.

This grand occasion celebrated 75 years of Royal Navy and Royal Marine Reservists serving in the East Midlands, with an unforgettable performance from The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Plymouth and the Vicky McClure Dementia Choir, all whilst enjoying some special DropWorks Rum cocktails (which went down a treat, of course!).

The evening brought together a wonderful group of people from different roles and backgrounds, include naval officers, reservists, veterans and families who stand proudly beside them. It was an honour to be invited to join the celebrations.

Wishing HMS Sherwood a very happy 75th birthday and heartfelt congratulations to all who make their service possible. 🎉⚓
