We are incredibly sad to hear of the sudden passing of Matthew Jukes.
Matthew was a huge presence in the w**e world, and particularly for those of us who love Australian w**e. When he spoke about a w**e, a region or a producer he believed in, you listened. His knowledge, enthusiasm and sheer force of personality drew you in, and his championing of Australian w**e over so many years meant a great deal to an enormous number of people.
We are only a very small part of the w**e trade compared with many of the people Matthew worked with, but he always knew our name, always stopped to taste our South Australian w**es and always gave them his proper attention. That generosity meant more than he probably ever knew.
I’ll also remember seeing Matthew and his wife Amelia together at w**e shows, teasing each other over who was staying for a drink afterwards and who was on the kids run. There was such warmth and fun between them, and it was delightful to witness.
The w**e trade has lost a remarkable voice and Australian w**e has lost one of its great champions.
Our thoughts are very much with Amelia, their family, and all those who loved him.
