We all say SHOP LOCAL, but how many of us actually do?
I’ve just watched this video from a fellow independent business owner, and it really struck a chord with me.
Slowly but surely, our high streets are dying. Independent shops are struggling, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
This gentleman has around 4,000 followers. Imagine if tomorrow every single one of those followers walked into his shop and bought just one £1 stem of flowers.
That’s £4,000 through his till in one day.
Now, obviously that’s not going to happen, but imagine if just a fraction of them did.
We often think that spending a pound or two won’t make much difference, but collectively it really can.
We all love the idea of independent shops, beautiful high streets and thriving local communities, but they can’t survive on likes, shares and good intentions alone.
They need people through their doors.
I’m not saying we should never shop online or use supermarkets. I’m just saying that perhaps, every now and again, we could make a conscious effort to spend a little of our money with an independent business.
We’ve spent years saying shop local. Maybe it’s time we actually did.
Let’s not wait until our high streets have disappeared before we realise what we’ve lost.
