✨ Mistra Store Turns 60! ✨
Did you know that Mistra Shop is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year?
1965 was a little before my time—and definitely before I moved to Orkney—but over the past three years, I’ve loved hearing stories about Jock & Thora Spence, Ann & Billy Tait, Ruth Miller / Jim Robertson, Ross & Linda Cardman-Hope, and Mike & Christine Williamson, and their time running Mistra. This shop holds so many wonderful memories, thanks to the amazing community that has kept it going despite the ever-changing retail world.
That’s why we feel it’s time for a big refresh! As many locals and regular visitors already know, we’ve got some exciting plans in the works—but we need your help to bring them to life!
If you have old-style shop or post office fittings, church items, or even vintage farm pieces that you no longer need and would be willing to sell, we’d love to hear from you. Rather than buying new fixtures designed to look old, we want to upcycle genuine vintage pieces to give the shop a fresh yet nostalgic feel.
📸 We’re also looking for old photographs of the shop, the bar, or any of the wonderful people who have been part of its history. If you have any, we’d be thrilled to see them!
