‘Are all of your wines made in the Lake District then?’ 🤔

An occasional question we hear through the doors of Lake District Wines - we set ourselves up for that one we suppose!!

Up until recently, we had to explain that our climate made making wine in this area quite difficult, until we got a call from the Underscar Estate. They’d started making wines and wanted us to be the first to stock it on our shelves. Obviously we were honoured and thrilled to oblige! ✨

Wine Spotlight: The Prodigal Son - Underscar Vineyard - 100% Rondo - Keswick 🇬🇧 The vines grow on the south west slope of Underscar Estate in the shadow of Skiddaw, overlooking Keswick & Derwent Water. A view once described by HRH Elizabeth I as the finest ever in England. The Underscar Vineyard, one of the most northerly in England, was established in 2016 by Jonathan Brown, and now produces exceptional wines.

This weekend we have a rare northern red on the menu, by the glass! Rich ruby colour with balanced low acidity & tannins. Deep fruit notes of blackberry and raspberry with a hint of vanilla. Unlock its vibrant freshness with us and taste the first Keswickian vino to hit our shelves! We’re delighted to be a part of its history! 🍷

Wine Spotlight: Smiley Red V6 🇿🇦🍷
An intensely flavoured, fresh and fruity blend of South African Syrah, Touriga Nacionale, Grenache, Cinsault. With flavours of Red & Black Berries, Violets, Fynbos, Olive Brine (yes, you heard us right!) and Pepper with grippy tannins.

It’s a real flavour journey this one. A good depth of fruit and bright acidity before a savoury finish that lingers. Available by the glass this weekend!

At the heart of Terracura in Swartland are the Smiley non-vintage wines that have not only spearheaded the brand but have been trail blazers for off the beaten track and maverick winemaking in South Africa. First vinified by winemaker Ryan Mostert just short of a decade ago - inspired by the hyper-oxidised wines of the Jura in France - it has grown into a fascinating vehicle with which to push the boundaries of South African winemaking in a region already renowned for raging against the status quo.

Try something new and vibrant this weekend with us 🍇😈💜✨

Wine Spotlight: “Hautkontakt is not a Proper Word” - .at Winemakers- Wagram, Austria 🇦🇹
This wine is a real summer smash, available by the glass this week! Full of flavour and a rare glass too, with only 600 bottles made (thanks to for sharing some with us!). From the team at Diwald in Wagram, Austria, this rare Gruner Veltliner is Vegan, Organic and Unfiltered. It has had 75% skin fermentation in acacia barrels, 25% in stainless steel. It has quite a serious texture, a real “amber/orange wine”, one to shock a palate not expecting its structure. Expect powerful notes of peach, apricot, and saffron, alongside the traditional white pepper and apple fruit found in classic Grüner Veltliner. The wine also often features nutty, honeyed, and even spicy or earthy undertones. Acacia wood, known for its tight grain structure and low tannin content, offers a subtle, floral influence on the wine’s flavor and texture, while also ensuring minimal oxygen transfer during aging.

📸 We snapped this wine amongst the lavendar bushes outside the shop to make the beautiful original label artwork by really pop! We’ll see you this week to try a glass before it’s all gone! 🥂

Wine Spotlight: Charosa Selection Chenin Blanc, India 🇮🇳

Well, this is a first for the Lake District Wine team. This week we are so excited to offer by the glass, a Chenin Blanc sourced all the way from Nashik, India - a place very special to us!

It has a subtle, fruity nose reminisent of green apple, guava and a hint of mandarin - nice and crisp with a tropical fruit edge that lingers 🍊

Set within 230 acres, are a prestigious producer of fruit-forward new world wines, using open-tank fermenters, pioneered for the first time in India.

Pop in this weekend and try something a little more exotic to take your off the rain! ☔️

We hope you wonderful lot can be on board with this decision and please note that whilst we are entirely separate businesses (with different owners), you can bring the cups back to any of our premises as we are working collaboratively on this.
Cheers everyone and I’m afraid does not come included with each cup.

We are super excited about this one!
Our next event will be a Hungarian wine and food night hosted by the wonderful Csilla from . Not only does Csilla produce her own wines with her Brother Csaba (many of which we sell in the shop) but she also pioneers the presence of many other Hungarian wines into the European market. Her passion and enthusiasm for her country is infectious and we are so happy that she is travelling over to give us a taster of what fantastic delights Hungary has to offer.
We once again have on board to whip up some Hungarian tasty treats to feast on.
Grab your place by emailing [email protected]. You’d be crackers to miss this one.
