Beaujolais is known for its reds, but on her buying trip, Harriet found something unexpected: brilliant, expressive whites.
White Beaujolais is having a moment in Paris and London bistros, and she’s picked some of her favourites to share.

Golden, amber, mahogany… there’s more to sherry than meets the eye (but wow, the eye gets a treat). From crisp and salty to rich and nutty, these shades pour a whole spectrum of summer sipping. Which one’s calling your name?

Swirling a glass of wine isn’t just for show
Why? It helps the wine open up, brings out the aromas, and gives them the best chance of understanding what’s in the glass.
They’ve done it so many times it’s second nature… but we all had to learn somewhere.
Do you swirl? Or are you more of a careful sipper?

Spain’s on the rise, and our glasses are full of proof

Our first-ever Fine Wine Spotlight takes over the range with a two-week celebration of Spain’s icons and rising stars. Expect everything from rare mature Riojas (spanning the 1960s to the noughties) to small-production Galician blends and textured, age-worthy whites.

Each release has been months in the making, handpicked by our buyer Harriet to capture Spain’s energy, elegance, and evolution.

Keep checking in new wines drop across the fortnight and some won’t hang around for long.

Spain’s wine story is changing. Once known more for bulk production and shaped by years of political isolation, it’s now one of the most exciting places for fine wine innovation.

Is it time fine wine lovers gave Spain the spotlight – or do the classic regions still deserve our focus? 🍷🇪🇸

Ever wondered how to get into en primeur?
Guest writer Amy Matthews took the plunge for the first time this year — and shared what it’s really like to buy wine before it’s even bottled.

“I’ve worked in wine for more than 20 years but it’s taken that long for me to buy wine this way, placing an order before the wine is ready to ship, sometimes before it’s even been bottled, on the strength of a tasting note, a story, and an enthusiastic curiosity.”

It wasn’t about collecting or investing. “I like feeling part of something that goes deeper than just buying wine, it brings me one step closer to the people who make it.”

She relished exploring winemakers’ styles, getting under the skin of a region and reading the tasting notes: “I remain in awe of how The Society buyers consistently make my mouth water in just a few short paragraphs.”

And while she doesn’t spend more per bottle than usual, she says she gets “a lot more for my money in terms of experience.” Even better, it helps her avoid what she calls “the ultimate nightmare scenario – running out of good wine.”

Fine Wine Manager Shaun Kiernan also weighed in, reflecting on 30 years of en primeur. “I have a lovely cellar of wine that I’ve built up over many years, hasn’t really cost me a fortune, and that I’ll drink over a long period of time with friends.”

As Amy puts it: “En primeur is like a gift-wrapped present from past you to future you.”

So if you’ve ever been tempted but not sure where to start, Amy’s take on her first foray into en primeur might just be the nudge you need.

Does blind tasting truly uncover a wine’s true quality free from bias? 🍷 Or does when, where and how we enjoy it play a bigger role than we think? 🤔 We’d love to know what you think 👇

Our story

Passion before Profit ‒ it’s a principle we’ve lived by since 1874. It means we only source the wines our buyers truly believe in, not the ones that make the most money. It means that we can guarantee the fairest prices for you and for our growers. It means our profits go back into making our services even better. Most of all, it means that you can buy a bottle from us with complete confidence, knowing that 140 years of dedication, pride and care has gone into every sip. And if one of our wines isn’t to your taste, you can return it under our Society’s Promise.
