Our duty rates in the UK are truly eye-watering. £2.67 on your typical bottle, as long as it’s between 11.5% - 14.5%, and with VAT on top that takes it to £3.20 ☹️

So it really does make sense to pay a little more attention to how much actual wine there is in your next bottle. The one saving grace of our regime is that the duty is fixed, so the more you spend on the wine, the more actual wine you get.🥳

And now for the bad news…😱

On Feb 1st our rates will be changing again, despite the largest increase in 50 years which the industry was hit with in the August ’23 budget (thanks Jeremy).

And to make things ‘easier’ (yes, they actually this word a lot) that 11.5 – 14.5% single tax band will disappear and be replaced with an increasing value per 0.5% increment. 🫥

So an 11.5% wine will attract £2.94 inc VAT (a slight reduction, yippee) whilst a 14% wine will set you back £3.59
