September has arrived, and autumn is almost here, which means we're in full swing at Harley House!

​The turn of the season brings fresh local produce to our favourite Sussex farmers' markets, and our calendar is packed for the weeks ahead:

Bentley Woodfair Next Weekend: We’re heading into the woods for one of our favourite events of the entire year! Come find our stall amongst the craft demonstrations, woodland displays, and local food stalls. We'll have our full range of Sussex Gins and Prohibition Rums open for tasting.

The Christmas Countdown Begins: It might only be September, but behind the distillery doors, preparations are already underway to ensure your festive bars and gift packs are fully stocked.

What connects our Signature Range and our Prohibition Sussex Rum Range? Uncompromising, small-batch craft.

Every batch of our Signature Gins is infused with locally inspired botanicals and South Downs water for a clean, crisp finish. Meanwhile, our Prohibition Rums are double pot-distilled from raw molasses right here in the distillery, picking up rich colour and smoky vanilla character from their rest in American oak.

No industrial blending. No mass-market short-cuts. Just genuine, independent Sussex distilling in every bottle.

What a weekend! A massive thank you to everyone who came out to see us and support our stalls across Sussex this Bank Holiday.

​Whether you braved the fields at Hellingly, soaked up the arts in Arundel, joined us on the Tye in Alfriston, or wrapped up the weekend at Le Marché in Heathfield, your ongoing support means the absolute world to our small team.

​We’re having a fantastic time soaking in the sights and sounds at the 50th Hellingly Festival of Transport at Broad Farm today. Over 1,500 classic machines, steam engines, and tractors out in force!

Ever wondered how our Prohibition Smugglers Cut Rum got its name, and its signature 57% ABV strength?

There’s a rich piece of coastal history in every bottle.

​The Smuggler’s Cut:
Centuries ago, under the cover of darkness along the Sussex cliffs and secluded bays, daring bootleggers moved contraband barrels inland across the South Downs. They didn't work for simple coin, they demanded their payment in spirit. Specifically, a “cut” of the very best, richest, highest-proof casks from the shipment before anyone else touched it.

​The Gunpowder Proof (57% ABV):
To guarantee the rum hadn’t been watered down, sailors and smugglers would pour a splash directly onto black gunpowder and light it. If the gunpowder still ignited with a flash, the rum was officially "at proof", exactly 57% ABV. (Bonus: if a barrel spilled near the cannons, the powder would still fire!).

​We took that uncompromised history and brought it right home to Seaford:

🪵 Aged in charred bourbon oak barrels for rich vanilla, warm spice, and smoky depth
🪵 Bottled at full 57% Navy Strength—delivering maximum character while staying remarkably smooth.

We're spending our Bank Holiday Weekend helping to celebrate 50 years of vintage power, family fun, and local craft spirits at Festival of Transport!

August Bank Holiday weekend at the 50th Hellingly Festival of Transport at Broad Farm, Hellingly (Saturday 29th – Monday 31st August | 10am – 5pm daily).

​Expect over 1,500 classic & steam vehicles, live arena displays, an auto jumble, food courts, and Harris’s Old Tyme Fun Fair! 🎠
​We’ll have the Harley House stall loaded with our full range of Sussex Gins, Prohibition Rums, and miniature taster sets ready for tasting.

Here are 5 things you may not know about Harley House Distillery:

1. We’re based right here in Seaford! Tucked between the South Downs and the coast, every single bottle is distilled, rested, and hand-packaged locally at our home distillery.

2. The magic in our Blue Gin is 100% natural. No artificial dyes here! Our Sussex Blue Gin gets its vibrant indigo colour from the natural infusion of Butterfly Pea Flower. Add tonic or a slice of citrus, and watch it naturally blush into purple right before your eyes.

3. Our Prohibition Rum is actually distilled here from scratch. We don’t buy bulk industrial spirits and re-label them. We source premium molasses, double pot-distil on-site, and age our rums in charred bourbon oak barrels for genuine craft depth and smoky vanilla warmth.

4. Yes… we do official merch! You can kit out your entire home bar with our branded crystal Copa gin glasses, heavy-bottomed rum tumblers, bar runners, and apparel.
