Meet the Bittersweet Hello. It’s Simon's latest creation and, we think, a very good reason to come to our next Spirited Evening🍸

Strucchi Bitter for the bitter, Luxardo Aperitivo and Strucchi Rosso Vermouth for the sweet, topped with Fiol Extra Dry Prosecco. And the "hello"? That's because there's no better way to welcome someone through the door!

All the ingredients are in Difford's Shop if you want to have a go at home. Though if you'd rather Simon made it for you, we still have a few spaces left for our next Spirited Evening on Saturday 6th June!

The long weekend is just around the corner, and it's actually looking like a sunny one.

We've got cold beer and wine ready to go from the fridge, plus everything you need to make a delicious summer cocktail. Your choice of Spritz - Hugo, Elderflower, Aperol, Limoncello - any version of a Margarita you can think of (or find on Difford's Guide), and of course a Pina Colada. Difford's Guide has the recipe and Difford's Shop has the ingredients - between us we've got you covered 🙌

Just some of the favourites emerging from our wine tasting last Sunday...thanks to all who joined us 🍷🥂🍾

Amaluna Organic Sparking was a real hit. It's the first Chilean sparkling wine to be certified organic, produced with organic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from the Casablanca Valley. Made in the traditional (Champagne-like) method, it has plenty of bubbles, and a delicious fruity, floral flavour with biscuity finish. It's on at a fantastic price of just £13.99 🥳

Can' Leandro La Vella 2023 is a deliciously complex blend of indigenous old wine varieties, from Valencia in Spain. Medium-bodied and bone-dry this is a brilliant value, old world wine made with a new world attitude! £13.97

Domaine de la Motte Petit Chablis, 2023. With its citrusy brightness, peach and pear fruitiness and minerality, this unoaked "Baby Chablis" is way better than the 'Petit' in its name might suggest. £18.47

As well, the De Loach California Collection Zinfandel was so popular it's all gone, so it's not in the photo...back in stock for the weekend though. Full of ripe berry flavours, firm oaky tannins with spicy notes, vanilla and chocolate. Mmmmm.

Happy International Kummel Day

If you’ve never tried it, kummel is a classic herbal liqueur flavoured primarily with caraway, alongside cumin, fennel, orris and other herbs.

Thought to be first created by the Bols family in 1575, it was described by Charles H. Baker in his 1939 'The Gentleman's Companion' as "kümmel is a great stomachic, relieves pains, collywobbles, aids for digestion, and is specified in enough cocktails that it should be on the shelf of every average bar."

More local beers, and wine open to try this weekend. 🍺🍷

We recently visited the Lakedown Brewing Co. taproom and had a great Sunday afternoon sipping our way through their range. After narrowing it down to a few favourites we're happy to say these are now on the shelves in the shop, alongside beers from other local breweries including Three Legs and Brewing Brothers.

We also still have a small number of beers from Rother Valley Brewing Company. After many years brewing in Northiam the brewery is sadly closing, so these may be among the last bottles available. We wish Stephen and the team there all the very best!

If wine is more your thing, we also have bottles open to try over the Easter weekend...

Domaine des Deux Roches, Bourgogne Blanc 'Tradition' — a lovely white Burgundy, 100% Chardonnay, juicy and buttery. And Coterie Rosé, a pale, delicate and savoury Rosé from South Africa.

We’re open until 6.30pm on Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Hope to see you soon!

What’s happening at Difford’s Shop…
A quick update on what we’ve got coming up over the next few weeks.

We have just two places remaining for our next Spirited Evening on Saturday 28th March. If you’ve been meaning to join us, now’s the moment. Our April event is fully booked, so this is the last opportunity until May to enjoy an evening of cocktails with the Difford’s Guide team. Go on...it's fun! 🍸🍹🥂🥃

Talking of April, we’ll be holding a wine tasting on Sunday 26th April. It will be a relaxed, drop-in event with delicious wines open to try, or stay for a glass or two. More details to follow, hold the date!

This Saturday is World Vermouth Day, so we’ll have a selection open to taste and recommendations on cocktails to try. If vermouth isn’t already part of your home bar, this is a good place to start.

Alongside this, we’re now offering bespoke cocktail kits, tailored for gifting, events, or building out your home bar.

And finally, on Saturday evening, the Difford's Guide bar will be popping up at the Los Pacaminos gig, with Simon and Paloma serving tex-mex favourites...Margaritas and Palomas. If you’re there, come and say hello!

Fresh beer from local brewery, Three Legs 🍺 We've just tapped a new cask of their classic pale ale, Pale No.3, the Chinook and El Dorado edition. Our taste test this morning was a great start to the day!
