A Scorpion bus has been involved in a road traffic accident along the Great North Road in Serenje. The Nakonde-bound bus reportedly lost control after a vehicle driven by a Chinese national overtook and rejoined the lane at very close range.

In an attempt to avoid colliding with a small car, the driver swerved, but it was too late. The bus struck the car, lost control, and overturned in the process.

MILES SAMPA Arrested Over Cyber Offence

By Arnold Tutu

Matero Member of Parliament MILES SAMPA has been arrested for the offence of Transmission of Unsolicited or Deceptive Communication.

Police Deputy Public Relations Officer CHIPO KAITISHA says Mr. SAMPA is currently in detention and is awaiting a court appearance.

Ms. KAITISHA says the Matero lawmaker, aged 55, of Lusaka’s Leopards Hill, Nyumba Yanga area, has been charged under Section 19(1) (d) of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.

She explains that the arrest followed a complaint lodged on January 19, 2026, at Lusaka Central Police Station by Mr RAPHAEL PHIRI, a Corporate Affairs Officer at the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ, acting on behalf of the Commission.

In a statement to ZNBC News, Ms. KAITISHA said it is alleged that on January 15, 2026, Mr. SAMPA transmitted false information claiming that a fake polling station had been opened along Ring Road in Lusaka.

She said the Zambia Police Service will continue to enforce the law impartially and investigate all reported cases thoroughly.

We were at Makebi’s place to maintain peace, not to harass anyone – Police

POLICE in Eastern Province say their presence at the residence of outspoken lawyer Makebi Zulu in Mambwe District was meant to protect him and his supporters and not to harm them.

Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba has told Kalemba that officers acted after receiving intelligence that a large crowd had gathered at the lawyer’s residence in the early hours of today without permission.

Mweemba explained that the police’s presence has been blown out of proportion by PF members, noting that Zulu, as a lawyer, knew he was required to notify the authorities about such a gathering but failed to do so.

He said there was nothing political about the police’s visit, as their duty is to protect the public.

“They are just trying to politicise it. We did not go there to arrest him or his supporters. We went there to do our job, which is to protect. What do you do when about 300 people gather at someone’s residence unlawfully? No one had permission,” he said.

“Those people knew they needed to get permission from us, but they are just being political.”

He stressed that the police are not involved in politics and their duty is to protect every citizen from harm.

The project is expected to be commissioned by mid-2026.

Speaking during the signing ceremony held in Lusaka, Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Head of Projects and Consultancy, Mwaba Matimba, said the initiative is part of the institution’s efforts to diversify Zambia’s energy mix and promote sustainability.

Meanwhile, Vision High Tech General Manager, Lin Yifeng, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to integrating Chinese technology and efficiency into the project, and thanked Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre for the continued partnership.

And speaking to the media after the ceremony, Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Board Chairperson, Patricia Musiya, said the solar expansion is aimed at broadening power supply sources while encouraging local participation in the energy sector.

In addition, Director Davies Chinkusu revealed that ground clearing works for Phase Two have already commenced, with full construction expected to begin once all regulatory requirements are completed.
