Sunday sessions….

Celebrating the new patio finally being finished and getting the big BBQ out! A Texan bbq and whisky glazed spatchcock chicken with a charred corn, feta and orzo salad šŸ˜‹ marked the occasion nicely.

In the glass I picked out the Seghesio Sinoma Valley Zinfandel. Fruit sourced from family owned vineyards across Sanoma County, Joaquin County and Contra Costa County. These guys have been growing Zinfandel for five generations, so they know what are doing with it.
Rich, elegant and flavours of blackcurrant, plum, blackberry and dark cherries with a touch of allspice and a note of vanilla to finish.
It’s a stunning example of Zinfandel and the perfect partner to the chargrilled chicken.

Mrs N on the other hand, went for a far more classic pairing and had her favourite. Long Barn Napa Valley Chardonnay with its tropical fruit, vanilla and buttered toast flavours.
We’ll agree to disagree on who got the best pairing. šŸ‘€

When the sun shines on a bank holiday weekend and you’re getting the bbq out regardless of what else is happening ā˜€ļø
Mid garden renovation at the moment but I wasn’t going to let an opportunity slide. So a make shift table, the portable bbq and
some delicious kebabs from our friends . Great value for money for this tasty trio.

In the glass is the utterly brilliant ā€˜Beginning’ Chardonnay. High up in the cooler Adelaide Hills of Australia these wines are gaining a real reputation. Tonnes of stone fruit, soft nutty notes and subtle oak that almost gives a hint of smoke. Delicious in the sunshine and one that will be a big hit this bbq season.

Can’t wait to sit on the finished patio with a glass of this very soon!

The leftovers edit!
We’ve hosted two amazing tasting events this week. First, we teamed up with to create an evening of special pizzas and perfectly paired wines šŸ˜‹
Then this afternoon we hosted an afternoon of cake and champagne. Delicious cakes by and a selection of superb sparkling wines.
With all this going on it left little time to cook something today… so we are enjoying the leftovers!
Normal service will resume next week… what will we have? šŸ¤”

Sunday Sessions….

Quick but very tasty rosemary marinaded lamb rumps today as time was short.
I spent this morning digging out a 21sqm patio that I finished just in time to see Forest secure Premier League football for another season.
I put the spade down, shot to see Martin and he came up trumps with these tasty treats.
Meanwhile Mrs N knocked up a yummy dauphinois potato (alongside her new fave pastime of following the progress of the Blackbirds nesting in our porchšŸ¦ā€ā¬›šŸ„°)

In the glass? One of this weeks new arrivals. Bodegas ViƱa Somaza ā€˜Via XVIII’ named after the Roman road running through Valdeorras.
A blend of Mencīa, Garnacha and Brancellao (which also goes by the far more amusing name of Juan Gomez). Aged in French oak for 12 months there are red berries and red cherry flavours, a scattering of fresh herbs and soft, juicy tannins. Absolutely perfect with the lamb rumps.

Sunday Sessions….

Boring chicken? This is honestly THE best roast chicken I have ever eaten. Picked this up at this morning and followed the classic Good Food recipe. My word. So tasty and juicy.

In the glass it had to be Chardonnay. I went with one that’s on our by the glass list this month. ā€˜Beginning’ in the cooler climate of Adelaide Hills. I love the wines that Jared and his team are producing. A real mix of Old World structure and New World flavour. A Chardonnay packed with stone fruit, hints of nuts and a touch of vanilla from the French oak and running through all that is a gorgeous mineral back bone.
There are three ā€˜levels’ to The Lane, and this sits in the middle tier. But there is nothing middle of the road about this wine. Delicious.

Not much pomp and ceremony with chicken… so enjoy a video of Barry doing a twirl for his chicken treat… and Jasper’s strategy of grabbing it whilst Barry isn’t looking 🤣
