Sunday Sessions….

Here we are 1st November. Clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and sometimes you just want something comforting… and not that fancy 🤷🏻‍♀️
We had a few bits hanging around in the fridge this week, all the ingredients to make a Shepherds pie… the only thing missing was the lamb. Martin quickly rectified that for us with some amazingly lean lamb mince that was absolutely delicious.

Equally as comforting was the
Tobella Bocins Negre, Priorat, Spain. This is a big, bold and rich red. Predominantly Grenache with Syrah and Cab Sauv. Tonnes of rich red fruit, raspberry and strawberry with a liquorice spice and touch of vanilla. The perfect w**e to match a high bowl of comfort food in front of a cozy fire.

This may well feature on a by the glass list before the year is out 🎅

The Hakushu 18yo Peated Malt, 2024 Tsukuriwake Edition 🇯🇵

From House of Suntory’s mountain forest distillery high up on Mount Kaikomagatake. Hakushu wh**ky is gently smokey with herbal notes and is the pinnacle of Japanese wh**ky.

Sunday Sessions….

A special birthday treat today 🥳 …rack of lamb beautifully prepared by Martin Turners Of Rishworth. I spotted one in the counter last week and he kindly offered to prepare one for me for this weekend.
I’ve given it a mustard and herb crumb (mint, parsley and rosemary) and Mrs N whipped up a dauphinoise potato to go with it 😋

In the glass, it had to be Pinot Noir so I delved into the cellar and picked Domaine Michel Larfarge, Volnay ‘vendangee sélectionnées’ 2018.
This particular bottling is made from small parcels of fruit from older vines across four separate vineyards. Aged in old oak to let the fruit shine. And shine it does. Rich with cherry and cassis flavour and hints of cocoa and citrus. The tannins and the acidity dance away in the background and it is just brilliant with the lamb.

I only have a few bottles of this and the 2020 vintage left… so if you’d like one then let me know.

And as a special treat for my birthday Mrs N made me my favourite… lemon meringue pie.
Carlsberg don’t do birthdays… and if they did it wouldn’t be this good! 😋 🍷

Sunday Sessions…..

A classic roast chicken dinner is hard to beat!
Herb Fed Poultry from Turners Of Rishworth with all the trimmings this week. Delicious 😋

In the glass is one of the many new additions that have arrived this week.
The fabulous Corentin Chavy Mâcon-Chardonnay. This is the third vintage of this w**e from Coretin Chavy, son of Alain and the w**e is made in the family w**ery in Puligny-Montrachet… some serious pedigree behind this w**e.
Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks on its lees to give a luxurious mouth feel. Citrus fruits and ripe peach with a racy acidity to balance all that fruit. This matches brilliantly with the roast chicken, but I’ll be honest it was a struggle not to polish it all off whilst it was cooking!

This w**e is on our by the glass list this month along with 14 other new arrivals so pop in and have a taste!

Sunday sessions….
Definitely maybe 👀 a touch of Autumn in the weather today. The kind of day that makes you start to think of the days ahead…big bowls of stew and a big, robust red w**e.

So it’s a Boeuf Bourguignon, slow cooked for hours with some creamy mash and green veg… perfect for a day like this 🥘 ( The Hairy Bikers recipe) 👌🏻 Beef from Turners Of Rishworth

In the glass, well it is the last weekend of the Bordeaux W**e Month activity so I’ve gone for our Château Dutruch Geand Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Médoc 2016.
This is drinking perfectly right now and is amazing value for money.
For the smallest appellation in the Haut-Medoc on the left bank of the Gironde river, nestled between the more famous Margaux and Saint-Julien.
Pretty much 50/50 Cab Sauv and Merlot with the smallest splash of Petit Verdot.
Juicy fruit of blackcurrant, cherries and plums with a smoky note in the background. There is a menthol note, almost liquorice like and subtle toasty oak.
Perfect partner for the stew. Sound effects at the end for how good it all was 🐶 🐶

I’m off to fall asleep in front of the fire! 🍷
