Our friends from Little Fish are going to be popping up in the shop this Thursday 5th March between 6 and 8pm with a lovely selection of some of their bestselling sushi for you to try, for free.

Come on down and see what restaurant quality sushi you could be enjoying in Redbourn. Either just pop in to try some on your way home, or arrange to meet a friend and stay for a drink. Open until 10pm.
Money off flyers also available for new customers.

Wine and music, my favourite combination 🥂💃

There was a silent disco on the beach at the hotel last night, quite literally music to my ears, so I loaded up my Tolloy Pinot Grigio (which I’m really quite a fan of now) and danced my heart out by myself to bangers like Whitney, I wanna dance with somebody (actually perfectly happy dancing by myself) and my personal fave that I requested, Montell Jordan This is how we do it, reminds me of Monday nights at Chicagos in Watford in 1995. ❤️

Silent disco too weird to have in the shop?

I’m posting a picture of the bottle to ensure you don’t buy it. It basically tastes of sweet fizzy water. I’m not complaining as it’s free and I could just NOT have it, but seems a shame to not join in the traditions of the hotel. Just please stop calling it ‘Champagne’ 😂

Cocktails 🍸🍹
So, I really like cocktails but almost never have them. They always sound tempting but then I open my mouth to order and I find myself saying ‘I’ll have the rosé please’

The lack of wine choices here means I’ve had 4 cocktails already.
First was a pit stop on a bike ride, asked for a rosé but the only wine type drink on the menu was Prosecco. Wild to me as it was a huge bar. Plumped for a raspberry margherita, wasn’t disappointed.

Next up was a restaurant in Little Havana. Was simply too embarrassed to ask for a rosé in an authentic Cuban restaurant, so went for a passion fruit mojito, delicious! If we were staying longer, I would’ve had more and sacked off the wine completely, and maybe opened an outlet of The Mojito Sisters 🍹Perhaps I will learn to make this and serve it at the shop.

Then we went to the basketball. We struggle for wine when we go to events in London but there’s usually something half bearable hiding on some small stand for an exorbitant amount of money. Here, however, no chance. The only white/rosé option was a semi sweet Chardonnay, so back to cocktails. First a Patron Paloma, just tasted of tequila with a squeeze of grapefruit, bad. Then a Bacardi spicy mango mojito, overly sweet, wouldn’t have again. At least I ended up with these 2 handy metal tumblers. Will be used later for rosé on the beach, and probably come back as a Redbourn Common cup for the summer.

While there’s decent wine on offer I won’t be completely converted to cocktails, but I’m glad I was pushed out of my comfort zone, well at least for the first 2. Cheers. Off to find a rosé, maybe a sparkling one🥂

I’m very lucky to be away in Miami and the Florida keys with the family this week, and thought I might post about a few of my wine experiences whilst between deprived of my usuals.

I’m off to the beach here with my plastic cup full of supermarket bought Josh rosé. It was $12.99, it was ‘fine’. It was no Laroche, but with lots of ice, perfectly palatable, and better than the oceans of Barefoot wine that still flood the aisle of every convenience store.

Miami will be tricky for wine as most restaurant wine lists are very limited. Pinot Grigio is big here, but not to be dismissed. Since arriving, I’ve had a few very good glasses, and one that would give you itchy gums. I literally grew up on Pinot Grigio, but it’s got a bad name because most pubs have a terrible example of cheap Pinot on their menu. I urge you to try a fancy Pinot Grigio, because chances are it’ll be delicious and also still much cheaper than any fancy french equivalents
