Bishop's Crook Brewery

Bishop's Crook Brewery Bishops Crook Brewery was officially founded in December 2012 by 2 friends; Dave Bishop and Ian Gran Coming from a process engineering background, Ian G.

Bishops Crook Brewery was officially founded in December 2012, but brewing had started a good few years prior to this. Friends Dave Bishop and Ian Crook met about five years ago and shared a passion for Real Ales, Ian introduced Dave to homebrew and over the following years enjoyed the results of their labour, as did their friends and relatives at the many parties and bbqs that they had. It was at

one of these parties that Ian Grant was introduced to the craft and the partnership in the summer of 2012. soon wanted to move from kits and experiment brewing from grain. Over Christmas 2012, we acquired a 23 litre boiler, Ian converted a 40 litre Igloo Picnic box into a mash tun and the first brew commenced.

Really pleased to be working with Peter and Paul at the Anchor at Hutton to develop two beers to complement their new menu that will be available once they are open again.

INTRODUCING 'THE DIPPY DUCK' | A VERY unique fruity IPA with hints of mango!

This IPA is defiantly one not to be missed! Like the 'Hare of Hutton' we have teamed up with a local brewery to create our own craft beer exclusive to The Anchor.

We cannot wait for opening so you all can try just what we have to offer! See you all very soon!

It's a bit weird getting the brewery back up and running without having someone to bounce ideas off.

Over the last week, I have been doing quite a bit in the background: Talking to the council, arranging to sit the Personal Licence Holders Exam, Sourcing Ingredients, engaging with old and new customers etc. I hope to be in a position to brew a small trial batch in the next few weeks.

08/05/2020

As well as casked ale, bottles, minikegs and growlers will also be available once the brewery is back in operation.

06/05/2020

Plans are definately coming together. Great discussions with Council, Working on designs for labels for bottles and re-organising brewery.

It has been almost 3 years since the brewery was mothballed due to building work. Since then, Myself and Dave have discussed restarting on several occasions, however over the weekend Dave confirmed that he had made the difficult decision not to continue.

After serious thought, I have decided to invest some money into re-establishing the brewery and hope to be in a position to be brewing again once the current restrictions improve and life returns to some normality.

I will keep you informed of the progress, but in the meantime, please stay safe.

Regards, Ian

Our Story

In the following years, we built a great reputation with our customers. Unfortunately in 2017 the brewery had to be mothballed due to building work and with other priorities etc, we never got established again.

In April 2020, after many discussions about restarting brewing, Dave decided that he no longer wanted to continue. With the support of many friends and family, Ian decided that restarting brewing was something he wanted to do and is planning a re-launch by the autumn.
