We are delighted to welcome the highly acclaimed Oliver Zeter to The Oxford Wine Cellar this July. Trained in Italy and South Africa before returning to his native Germany, Oliver blends international flair with deep respect for regional terroir.

Since launching his own label in 2007, he has become a cult favourite amongst sommeliers and independent merchants alike, known for pushing stylistic boundaries while retaining clarity, precision, and charm in the glass.

We'll taste through six wines from the Oliver Zeter range, touching on sparkling, white, red and sweet styles - all presented with the insights of the winemaker himself.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a brilliant Bordeaux tasting, expertly led by certified Bordeaux Educator Abbie Bennington. From sparkling Crémant to crisp Whites, rich Sweets, and even a juicy Clairet — we explored the full spectrum of styles this ever-evolving region has to offer.

It was a fantastic opportunity to taste beyond the classics and discover some of the exciting varieties and modern expressions coming out of Bordeaux today.

Have you met Clairet? 🍷 Not quite a red, not quite a rosé, this Bordeaux gem floats right in the middle. Deep pink in the glass, full of ripe berry fruit, and just enough tannin to make things interesting.

Clairet (pronounced 'claret') is the original style that gave Claret its name. Centuries ago, this was the wine the English fell in love with, and for good reason! It’s bold, juicy, refreshing, and utterly food-friendly. Think charcuterie, grilled meats, spiced dishes, or just a sunny afternoon!

We’ve recently brought in a limited batch from one of our favourite small producers, Chateau Carbonneau, just in time for the sunshine. If you’re curious about the “missing link” between rosé and red, Clairet should be next on your list.

🌟Fantastic results from our Oxford Wine School! 🌟

It is a pleasure to announce that our latest group of WSET Level Two students achieved a full sweep of passes in their exam! Even more impressively, there were eight merits and six distinctions among the group of 16. This 100% pass rate puts The Oxford Wine School comfortably above the WSET global average of 93%. Congratulations are in order for all students, as well as John and Tim, our Educators!
