Oban is a much loved whisky from one of Diageo’s smallest distilleries 🥃.

These casks, filled in 1996, are the last remaining from that year and, unusually for Oban, have been matured in refill European oak butts. A departure from the American oak typically used has allowed a more pronounced maritime character to emerge 🌊, with dry coastal notes and a heightened peppery spice giving this whisky a distinctive edge.

The spirit was distilled during the tenure of Ian Williams, a true legend of the whisky world, who managed Oban from 1983 to 1999.

During this time, his team won the prestigious internal Manager’s Dram award three times 🏆—a record that still stands.

🔥🥃 Now available at £1980 from the Wee Wine Shop, Oban – a rare chance to own a true piece of Oban history. Don’t miss it.

Strontian Gin Tasting - postponed new date to be announced!! 😭

So sorry about the ladt minute cancellation of the Strontian Gin tasting for this Saturday!

As soon as we have another date we will let you all know.

20/03/2026

Due to a su***de in our family, we will be closed this weekend ( Fri, Sat, Sun).

We are choosing to say this plainly because too often it goes unspoken, and silence does not help anyone.

If you are struggling, please do not keep it to yourself. Talk to someone you trust, a friend , a professional. Take care of yourselves and each other. You are not alone.

See you on Tuesday 24th March as usual.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We’ve had some lovely feedback recently — thank you all so much!

Here are a few of our latest 5-star reviews:
🍷 “A really nice shop… great advice for choosing wines for a group and food pairing.”
🍷 “Fantastic selection and always such helpful, friendly service.”
🍷 “Every visit is a pleasure — you can tell they really care about what they recommend.”

We’re incredibly grateful for every single review. They really do help spread the word about what we do — and the best part? They don’t cost a thing, but they make a huge difference to a small business like ours.

If you’ve enjoyed a bottle (or a few!) from us, we’d be so thankful if you could take a moment to leave a wee review.

And just so you know , we never take them for granted. We read every one and always take the time to reply.

Thank you for your support 🍷

Let’s talk about big and small bulges! 😂
(Strictly wine related! 🍾)

You know that curve… that hollow bulge… that dramatic indentation and the sudden urge to stick your thumb in it?
A bit like Edward Scissorhands… but with wine bottles 🤪

It’s called a punt.

Historically, that curve wasn’t just for show:
• It strengthened bottles (especially sparkling wines under pressure)
• It helped collect sediment
• It gave early glass bottles stability

These days?

A deep punt, a heavy bottle, or even a wax seal may look and feel luxurious, but they are largely stylistic and marketing choices. They’re respectful nods to tradition and craftsmanship, creating a sense of occasion and prestige, yet none of them promise better wine.

A heavy bottle might feel impressive when you hold it, but what matters is always the wine itself, not the bottle that carries it, and certainly not the size of the bulge.

And while we’re down there… 😝

Some waiters (not sommeliers!) love placing their thumb into the punt and lifting the bottle from underneath.

Does it look impressive? Yes.
Does it add flair? Probably.
Is it universally accepted? No.

In many formal and high end settings, holding the bottle by the punt is frowned upon and not part of standard sommelier training or daily service routine.

Not all bottles even have proper punts anymore. Some are shallow, some are flat, and that’s when slips happen. Guests get an unexpected wine shower, restaurants get a large dry cleaning bill, and evenings get ruined 😱

Proper wine service? 🍽️🍷
• One hand
• Lower half grip
• Label facing the guest

Elegance is control, not theatrics.

True service is quiet, composed, and deliberate. The wine should make the statement, not the person pouring it. It’s precision over performance, confidence over showmanship, and respect for the guest above all else.

Because in wine, as in life… weight and drama mean nothing without quality inside. 🍷

From Romania with love 🥰

Made from a grape called Fetească Regală (go on, have a go at saying it after a glass).

We know what you’re thinking…
“Romanian wine? Does it actually taste like wine… or is this a science experiment?”

Relax. It’s very much wine. And very good wine at that.

Golden in the glass, fresh and vibrant, with peach, pear and a little citrus lift. Bright acidity, subtle florals, and properly refreshing.

Sometimes the bottles we’re most unsure about are the ones that surprise us most.

Live a little. Your usual pinot grigio will forgive you. 😜
