VINHO VERDE - AS FRESH AS IT GETS

Grown in the north of Portugal, tucked away from the sun soaked regions, these wines are made from native varieties that create light, modern expressions. They are inherently suited to the warm afternoons and the seafood and cheeses synonymous with northern Portugal.
When making the Vinho Verde, CO2 is used throughout the cool-fermentation by native yeasts in stainless steel barrels all designed to keep the wine as fresh as possible. Unfined and unfilted with a small amount of CO2 left in the bottle for that all important green wine spritz!
100KM South East perched above the Dåo river and protected by the mountains from the Atlantic winds, with a soil rich in schist and granite, the Dåo region produces some of the best wines in Portugal earning the nickname Portuguese Burgundy.

2010 Hacienda Monasterio, one of the greats. At 15% abv this is fresh, deft and absolutely delightful - there is a question mark over the future of this style (high abv wines) I think it will be a huge loss to 2040 if we can’t enjoy a glass of something with this pedigree on a fabulous random Sunday-Monday in late January 2040.
