Can anyone help us uncover the history of our shop? 🕰️🍬
We’ve recently been looking into the history of our premises at 97A Station Road, Forest Hall, with the flat above numbered 97 Station Road.
This fantastic old photograph appears to show the shop during the early stages of the roadworks connected with the Forest Hall flyover, most likely around the early to mid-1960s.
What we believe we know so far:
* The building was owned by the Co-op
* Our shop operated as the Co-operative Confectionery
* The flat above was also Co-op owned and is still sometimes referred to in post as “The Co-op Flat”
* The neighbouring Co-op premises included other departments, including a butcher
* Hall’s Poulterer can be seen further along the row
* The building in the distance was a garage which also sold caravans
* The roadworks shown may be the beginning of the construction of the flyover
We’d love to hear from anyone who remembers the shops, worked there, lived nearby, or has relatives who did.
In particular, we’re hoping to find out:
* When the confectionery first opened
* Who managed or worked in the shop
* Who lived in the flat above
* The exact year the photograph was taken
* The name of the garage and caravan business
* What businesses occupied the premises after the Co-op
* Whether anyone has any other old photographs of this part of Station Road
