BY THE GLASS HIGHLIGHT. Every week we change our BTG list, rotating through our many w**es.

This week we are highlighting our Chablis 1er Cru “Vosgros” Gilbert Picq 2023. A French Burgundy with expressive flavours of green apple, grapefruit and white flower, creating a wonderful structure. Freshly squeezed lemon and lime melds with the taut acidity and chalky texture of this excellent Chablis. Powerful and rich, yet calm and cool. Didier, the son of Gilbert Picq, describes this w**e as “dangerously refreshing”.

All the way from Devon, Sandridge Barton have been balancing traditional and modern w**emaking techniques for the last 40 years. Their approach to w**e is dynamic and their Don’t Feed The Ponies Range means their style is ever-evolving.

GIANT. A Pinot Gris bursting with orange, sweet spices and honey. Aged for 5 years to encourage oxidation — this soften tannins and opens up the aromas of the grape, and can add a savoury, earthy or nutty flavour. Part of their Don’t Feed The Ponies range that celebrates wild and experimental w**e making.

LITTLE BEE. A skin contact Pinot Gris. One that’s complex and full of energy; think wild raspberry and tangerine, sour stone fruits, and a grippy acidity with a generous finish. 3 weeks on skins, dry and easy drinking. Also part of their Don’t Feed The Ponies range.

Both these delicious orange w**es are on shelves in store, and we’ll be pouring LITTLE BEE by the glass this week from Thursday. Come grab a glass.

AUTUMNAL BEERS. Plenty to offer — something for everyone.

AUGUSTINER EDELSTOFF. Crisp, gold, sweet malts. A little stronger than a traditional Helles, and perfect for the colder days. Made in accordance with German b**r purity laws. 5.6% ABV.

CIDRE BRETON. Naturally cloudy, crisp apple, almond. Soft and full-flavoured. Imagine sipping on this on a crisp, sunny autumn day. Bliss. 5% ABV.

TRACK FALL W/ HUKINS HOPS. Copper colour, Bitter, biscuity malts. A local brewery in collaboration with a fifth-generation family hop farm in Kent. Specifically crafted for this season. 4.6% ABV.

SHEPHERD’S STOUT. Smooth, dark, creamy. Irish style stout. A true autumn and winter warmer from Cumbria’s Fell Brewery. 4.2%.

BTG highlight! The perfect Autumn pick-me-up, Nico Speranza’s 2023 Marche Bianca Edizione is a deep golden Pecorino, with notes of honeyed plum and steeped pineapple, and a long, buttery finish. Dry, full bodied, and bursting with acidity, it’s definitely one to try!

Nico’s goal with his w**ery is to produce “conscientious w**e”, and considers his approach to w**emaking as poetic, often inspired by Italian poets and the lovelorn likes of Nick Cave. With grapes grown in the steep hills of Marche, they benefit from their central location, surrounded by the Adriatic sea and the Apennine mountain range. Cool sea breezes and vibrant sunny slopes make for the perfect recipe for a blossoming microclimate.

For lovers of Sauvignon Blanc and Vermentino who are looking for a little more weight and texture, and the perfect accompaniment to any of our tinned fish selection!

The quiet benchmark for Montsant Garnacha? We think so…

Joan d’Anguera farm the rugged, sun-baked hills of Montsant in Catalonia, where the family has tended vines for seven generations. Working organically and biodynamically, w**emakers Joan and Josep have become some of the region’s most respected voices, making precise, concentrated w**es that speak clearly of their place and are stacked with Mediterranean character.

Both bottles lean on Garnacha, the darling grape at the heart of Montsant. Planella is the livelier and juicier of the two - delivering ample ripe red fruits and freshness. Altaroses steps things up with more depth, concentration, and structure, while keeping that generous, sun-drenched charm. Both are showstoppers in fruit, texture and versatility.

If you often lean towards Rhône and Priorat reds, Montsant is an unsung hero that deserves a second look!
