What happens when Slurp W**es and Waud Handford W**es bring their collections together for the first time?

A room full of w**e, conversation, familiar favourites and a few exciting new discoveries!

On Wednesday evening, we welcomed 40 guests to Balls Brothers in the City of London for our first joint portfolio tasting.

With 50 w**es to explore, there was something for every palate.

đŸ„‚ Ch*****ne Laurent-Perrier brought some wonderful bottles to the table.

Italian favourites included Pieropan Soave, Freixenet and Passori Rosso.

Spain was particularly well represented, with Mucho MĂĄs, Mar de Frades and a beautifully mature Rioja from Urbina.

đŸ· And there was plenty more to discover, from Burgundy and the Loire Valley to South Africa, Australia and some exceptional fine w**es.

But the best part wasn't simply the number of bottles.

It was seeing people discover something new, revisit an old favourite and share their enthusiasm for w**e.

That's exactly what Slurp is all about.

đŸ„‚ What does a ÂŁ12.95 bottle of pink fizz have in common with Ch*****ne?

Quite a lot, as it turns out.

Back in 1864, a 23-year-old Alfred Gratien founded two sparkling w**e houses in the same year.

One in Ch*****ne. The other, 300km away, in the beautiful Loire Valley.

More than 160 years later, that Loire house is still making sparkling w**e using the traditional bottle-fermentation method.

And there's another lovely part to the story


Deep beneath the hills of Saumur, in ancient limestone galleries dating back to the 12th century, bottles of Gratien & Meyer Cuvée Flamme rest and develop before they're ready to enjoy.

The Cuvée Flamme Rosé Brut is a particularly delicious introduction.

🍓 Pale salmon pink, with fine, lively bubbles and flavours of wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant. Fresh, dry and rather lovely with smoked salmon, prawns or simply good company.

It's the sort of bottle that makes an ordinary evening feel a little more special.

A Spanish grape. An Australian legend. And a rather lovely story.đŸ·

When you think of Albariño, you probably picture Galicia. Atlantic breezes, fresh seafood and crisp white w**e enjoyed by the coast.

But Dalfarras Albariño has a surprise in store.

It comes from Nagambie Lakes in Victoria, Australia, where the cooling influence of the Goulburn River helps this Spanish grape retain its wonderful freshness.

And the family behind it? That's where things get even more interesting.

Dalfarras is the personal project of Alister Purbrick, fourth-generation w**emaker at the historic Tahbilk estate, and his wife Rosa.

Even the colourful label has a story. Rosa is the artist behind the artwork, making this a w**e with a genuinely personal touch.

In the glass, expect white peach, crisp apple, grapefruit and a lovely citrus freshness. The sort of w**e that makes you start thinking about grilled prawns, fresh fish or a long lunch with friends.

It's everything we love about w**e discovery: a familiar grape, an unexpected home and a fascinating family story.
