Britain has opened solar power to many more households by allowing small plug-in panels that can work from balconies and other outdoor spaces. ☀️🏠
From August 27, 2026, compliant plug-in solar kits became legal to buy and use across Great Britain. The systems can produce up to 800 watts and connect directly to a household mains socket without requiring the kind of full rooftop installation many homes depend on. That makes them especially interesting for apartment residents, renters and people without access to an entire roof. Government estimates suggest a suitable system could provide up to 20% of an average home’s electricity use and save as much as £110 a year, depending on conditions. Residents may still need permission from landlords, freeholders or local authorities before placing panels on balconies or buildings, but the change creates a much simpler route for more households to generate some of their own electricity.
