1970 marks the very first vintage of Monprivato to appear on the label, a quiet but important moment in Barolo.
A vineyard known since 1566 and now almost entirely in the hands of the Mascarello family, Monprivato has long been considered one of the great sites of Castiglione Falletto. Mauro Mascarello, who took over in 1967, stayed firmly committed to traditional winemaking, long macerations, large casks, and a focus on purity over power.
The vintage itself was generous and well-balanced, even if often living in the shadow of 1971. But the style is already there: refined, aromatic, and built to age far longer than its gentle tannins might suggest.
A first release that set the tone for everything that followed.
