The Good Wine Shop is an independent UK Wine Shop in Kew, Richmond Hill, Chiswick and Teddington, also available online. Our ethos is "Good Wine, Real People, Great Stories", specialising in the finest vintages from the world’s best small family producers. We have built a reputation for sourcing interesting and often quirky wines from well known regions as well as far flung places. We won Decanter Best London Neighbourhood Wine Shop in 2020 as well as Best London Wine Shop in 2019.

What’s on? A new month of wines by the glass 🍷

September means a fresh line-up at our wine bars and there are some rather lovely things open.

Start with Crémant de Limoux, wander through Grauburgunder, Oregon white and Sicilian Grillo, then head into Etna Rosso or Margaret River Cabernet. Or rosé. Obviously rosé is still allowed, none of us believe summer is completely over.

Our wines by the glass change every month, giving you the chance to discover something new without committing to the whole bottle. Although, should you wish to commit, we fully support that decision.

And remember, the list is only the beginning: every bottle on our shelves is available to drink in, with corkage of £10 per bottle.

And a special shout-out to Ian at Kew for turning this month’s wine list into a work of chalkboard art. 👏

California, but not as you know it. 🇺🇸🍷

It began in the 1950s when a group of Stanford Research engineers bought an old vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains as a weekend retreat. They made a little Cabernet. It turned out to be rather good.

More than 60 years later, Ridge Vineyards has become one of California’s most revered producers – while continuing to do things very much its own way.

Our latest releases include the historic Geyserville 2024, old-vine Lytton Springs 2024 (in bottles and very handy halves) and Three Valleys 2024, a brilliant introduction to Ridge.

The tiny allocation of Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has already been snapped up by our private clients, but the rest have just landed.

Your autumn wine diary starts here 🍂🍷

The nights are drawing in, our tasting evenings are back and we’ve got a seriously good autumn lined up across our five shops.

Travel through Portugal and Italy, put Bordeaux up against the world, journey down the Rhône, discover what makes cool-climate wines so exciting, or get up close and personal with the winemaker himself as Christiaan Coetzee of Uva Mira joins us at Kew for a very special evening.

And these are just a few of the highlights.

Getting into the Bank Holiday spirit? 🥃🍸

Wine may be our first love, but there’s plenty more to taste in store this weekend…

We’ve got a brilliant selection of spirits, aperitifs and smaller-format bottles and, even better, plenty open for tasting. So if something catches your eye, just ask us for a splash.

A few ideas for your Bank Holiday drinking:

🍹 Venice Aperitivo — keep it simple with Prosecco and a splash of soda for a bright, bittersweet spritz.

🌵 Sin Gusano Agave Spirit — small-batch, characterful and very good neat, or add a little depth to your Margarita.

🍸 Citadelle Gin — floral, citrusy and beautifully aromatic. Excellent in a classic G&T, Martini or French 75.

🥃 Ron Abuelo — go for the 7 Year in a Daiquiri or Rum Old Fashioned, or pour the richer Napoleon Cask over ice and leave it at that.

🌿 Lind & Lime Gin — crisp, peppery and citrus-led; tonic and plenty of ice will do very nicely.

And that’s just a snapshot of what’s open. Spirits, aperitifs and… a water feature. We really do have everything.

Every month our teams get creative with chalk pens, A-boards and window displays to bring our latest ideas to life.🎨

This August they’re celebrating one of our favourite traditions…

Zero corkage is back. 👌

Choose any bottle from our shelves, settle into one of our wine bars and we’ll waive the corkage fee throughout August.

Or simply drop in for a glass from our new August wine list, featuring a hand-picked selection of wines by the glass alongside our cheese and charcuterie boards, or olives of you like! 🫒

No booking needed. Just good wine, good company and a comfy seat.

☀️ California sunshine… thankfully from the weather and the wines!

What a brilliant evening on our St Margarets terrace exploring some of California’s most exciting producers.

From Roederer Estate to Arnot-Roberts, Cline, Turley, Ridge and Robert Biale, we travelled from crisp coastal Chardonnay to some of California’s oldest Zinfandel vineyards, with fantastic food from The Gourmet Hog Roast Company keeping everyone well fuelled along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a fun evening.

California is calling… 🇺🇸🍷

We’re pouring our way through some of California’s finest wines tonight at our Zin & Grill tasting on the St Margarets terrace.

From Louis Roederer’s sparkling Quartet to benchmark producers including Arnot-Roberts, Turley, Ridge, Robert Biale, Marietta and Cline, it’s a brilliant chance to explore just how exciting Californian wine can be.

We’ll be comparing old vines with younger vineyards, tasting iconic Zinfandels and discovering why California has become the spiritual home of this remarkable grape.

If you’re local St Mags and and fancy joining us, we’ll do our best to fit in a few walk-ins this evening.

Now THAT’S how you do a Saturday in St Margarets 🎶☀️

Another brilliant ⁠St Margarets Fair — and once again, we were very proud to support the music stage and this fantastic local event.

A huge shout-out to the young musicians from ⁠Powerjam Bands, the brilliant local non-profit helping the next generation of musicians find their band, build their confidence and, most importantly, get out there and play live. 🎸🥁🎤

We’ve now had the pleasure of seeing some of the Powerjam bands play at both Kew Fete and St Margarets Fair — and they are seriously good. Watching young local musicians grow, develop and absolutely own the stage is exactly why supporting projects like this matters. 🙌

Big thanks to everyone behind St Margarets Fair and Powerjam Bands for another cracking day — we’re always happy to play our small part in keeping the local music turned up loud. 🍷🎶
