Always a pleasure having Jamie Waugh from Halo wines in the shop, especially so when he’s hosting a tasting.
Wednesdays weather just held out for the theme of summer drinking and Jamie took us through six on the patio, relaxing in the sun, going to a BBQ wine essentials.
Rosé was well represented with a sophisticated, subtle expression from Bourgueil, Loire, France and a richer style from Beqaa Valley, Lebanon.
We stayed on the pink theme with a 100% Pinot Noir Champagne with a very subtle pink hue but an exquisite rich, lively palate.
Only one white, but what a white! Alvarinho from Verdes, Portugal. Tangy, citrus, floral.
Beaujolais is working hard to shake off the young, jammy juice image and that is encapsulated in the Juliénas we tried. This is grown up Gamay. Whole bunch pressed and no added sulphur, inspired by natural winemaking. Vibrant and classy.
Back to Lebanon for our last red. Grenache, Cinsault, Tempranillo from a French-Lebanese collaboration. Produced at an altitude of 1,000 metres. Bright, juicy red with hints of spice and pepper.
We had an amazing crowd in. Very attentive, I didn’t have to shout at them Once.
Enormous thanks to Jamie and of course the amazing crowd, we can’t do it without you.
If you want to know more about the wines mentioned, please pop in.
We have a Diageo whisky tasting coming in July tickets are already going fast.
